“ 7*WHA4VH I Philipsville 'PHIHPSVILLE W.I. The Philipsville Women's Institute held their meeting in their hall on Thurs. Nov. 10, 1983. President McCann opened the meeting with the Ode and the Mary Stewart Collect. We then observed two minutes of silence in ~-h‘6ndur of the war dead. Roll call was bring a former W.I. members. Minutes were read & approved and new business dealt with. Clara Hallett gave a report from the area convention held in Kingston, also a report from the executive meeting held in Elgin. It is hoped' that in the future in memoriam cards will be placed in the Funeral Parlours. A report on the rug braiding course was given. More details to follow. The district annual will be held in Delta on May 10, 1984 with the area convention being held in Chaffey's Lock on Oct. 4 8: 5, 1984. . A committee was formed with Vieta Bolton in charge in regards to a Christmas dinner to be held for senior citizens who live alone. This will be held onTues. Dec.l3. Clara Hallett donated a gavel and stand to be used to bring meetings to order and. keep them that way. ' More-business reports to follow. Mrs. Shirley Wilson gave a most interesting talk on New Brunswick, our twin Province for this term. She had lived there herself for a number of years. She had papers, leaflets and a map which she used to point out places of interest. M "s. Wilson gave her presentation injsuch an interesting and pleasant way that we all felt that we were actually in New Brunswick on holiday. She told us that the Violet is the national flower and was named by W.I. members. New Brunswick was founded in 1602 by Champlain, who thought he had found China. The Province has the most covered bridges (including the longest) in the world. A gift was presented to Shirley by Clara in appreciation of her most informative talk. Several members read small papers about New Brunswick and the places of interest. The singing of the Royal Anthem concluded this portion of the meeting. A contest was held with Vieta Bolton being the winner. Theresa George had the marked tea cup. ‘ A delicious lunch was served by conveners Clara Hallett 8: Mavis Bowers. Next meeting is Dec. 9 and will be the Christmas meeting. More information will be distributed to members re this meeting at a later date.
