2 NORTH LEEDS LANTERN JUNE 1990 ' EDITORIAL PAGE It seems that there are many new and several lifetime residents of North Leeds who do not understand how their free copy of the Lantern reaches them, for ten of the twelve months each year. Fourteen years ago a group of enthusiastic volunteers introduced a newsletter which was appreciated and rapidly expanded into its present form. The Municipalities of Bastard & South Burgess, Newboro,South Crosby, and Rear of Leeds & Lansdowne pay for the delivery of one copy to every household within their boundaries. That is the only financial assistance that we receive, there are no grants. The printing costs are covered by the very reasonable advertising rates that we offer. Volunteers produce the paper,deliver it to the printers in Gananoque and later to Post Offices and some stores. Our volunteers are steadfast and reliable. several of them have worked throughout the life of the paper. To the Municipal Councils, our contributors and the business people who advertise in the lantern we offer a warm thank you, without you, the Lantern would go out and the ever increasing stream of community news would dry up. Over 3000 copies are distributed each month. PLEASE NOTE the announcement of impending increases due to start in September. Burgess, Rear of Leeds 8: Lansdowne, South Crosby and the Village of Newboro. Funding is provided through advertising revenue, which pays for the cost of production while the above named Township Councils contribute towards the mailing costs. Subscriptions are available to those residing outside of those areas named, at a cost of $7.50 Canadian residents and $10.00 U. S. mailings. Circulation 3000/month. The aim of the Lantern is to provide a monthly newspaper of interest to the residents of the areas it serves. News from Councils, local organizations and the public is published as space permits and under the guidelines set down by the Board of Directors. The Lantern also hopes to provide a forum for local concerns and invites articles or letters from the general public. All items submitted MUST be signed for publication. DEADLINE Lantern goes to press the last Tuesday of each month. Material must be submitted NO LATER than the Wednesday prior to press date. ADVERTISING SPACE MUST BE BOOKED BEFORE THAT DEADLINE DATE. ADVERTISING CONTENT: The Lantern staff prepare ads for print, however the content of the ad is the responsibilty of the advertiser.
