Announce New Launching Dock

AT MACKEY

MACKEY (Special) — Work on the new boat launching ramp at Mackey will proceed immediately. This was the word received from Len Hopkins, MP for Renfrew North, when council of the township of Head, Clara and Maria met in regular session recently. The ramp will be located on the Ottawa River and Mackey Creek with easy access from Highway 17, it was announced at the meeting. The total cost will be borne by the federal government.

Mrs. Elmer Donnelly, township clerk and tax collector for 21 years in the township, announced her retirement effective the end of this year.

Council voted to pay $3,000 of its outstanding county debt as well as the Renfrew County Separate School levy of $2,274.

Council went on record at the meeting as being in favor of Sunday hunting in Renfrew County. It was decided that Frank Bench, agricultural representative, will be asked to attend the next meeting of council to further explain grants under the department of agriculture about community centres.

No word has been received on the additional road expenditure grant requested to cover the cost of the purchase of a new truck. Meanwhile, council advised the road superintendent, Charles Delahunt, to have the necessary repairs made on the old one.

Following a request from Bissett's residents, Mr. Delahunt advised council that the roads in the area would be brushed as soon as the leaves started to fall. Council, in reply to a request from the department of lands and forests, stated that they had no objection to the leasing of a portion of Lot 24, Concession A, to Sylvester Reismer for commercial purposes.

Local construction companies will be thanked for their efforts in the search for the four-year-old boy missing for 16 hours in the bush area of Deux Rivieres, the council decided.
