Area Township Wants Wildlife Interpretive Centre
MACKEY (Special) — A resolution was passed at a recent council meeting of the Township of Head, Clara and Maria, that preference be given to the town¬ships when a decision is made as to the location of the proposed Wildlife Interpretive Centre by the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development. This resolution will be forwarded to Len Hopkins, MP, who is meeting soon with the Pembroke and District Council of Fish and Game Clubs to discuss the proposal. It was noted that the Centre could eventually compare in size with the $500,000 Centre located at Whitby, Ontario.
Council felt that while the whole area between Mattawa and Pembroke was being contemplated at this time, prime consideration should be given to the Bissett's area because of the natural marsh regions available within easy access of Highway 17 and because of the need for a major tourist attraction in the townships.
The department of lands and forests submitted to council its proposal for the subdivision of the area around both Valiant and Mousseau Lakes in Maria ship. Council was in agreement with the plan.
The $614.40 bill from Boorne and Simpson, land surveyors, for the surveying of four acres of land for the new boat launching ramp at Mackey was considered by council to be high. Council will ask for an explanation.
Community Centre board chairman, councillor Mary Sennett, reported to council on the board's activities. The main project of the board for the year 1970 is the construction of a permanent facility at the centre at Stonecliffe, which would serve as a tennis court in summer and ice skating in winter.
It is hoped the paving of the area concerned can be done in conjunction with the paving of Highway 17 in the area next summer.
Forthcoming events planned by the board include a Valentine's Dance on Friday, Feb. 13, featuring a "meet-your-new- neighbour-night" with 12 new families in the townships being invited as special guests, and a showing of wildlife slides on Friday, March 13, by the well- known photographer and conservationist, Alma Wallace.
Community centre board appointees for 1970 are the same as in 1969. with the exception of Ralph Turcotte, who has resigned. A member of the board $10 for commercial trailers, from the Stonecliffe area will The clerk will notify parties be sought to take his place concerned. Board members are Mary Sennett, Vickie leanings, Mary Ellen Boudreau, Elmer Donnelly, Ernie Boudreau a n d Elmer Panke.
Councillor Richard Delahunt felt that land owners, who have trailers parked on their property, should be advised of the change in policy on trailer fees. Notices have been posted I in all post offices in the townships to the effect that land owners rather than trail owners are now responsible for collection of monthly trailer fee of $5 for residential trailers and
