Township Wants 4000 Grant for Road Work

MACKEY (Special) — The council of the Townships of Head, Clara and Maria voted at its last meeting to apply for a supplementary grant of $4,000 for road work.

Additional work is planned this year in connection with the entrance to the boat launching ramp at Mackey and the parking area involved.

The township building bylaw will be reviewed by the bylaw enforcement officer, Elmer Panke and members of the council, taking into consideration certain portions of the National Building Code. The bylaw will then be redrafted by C. A. Merridew, township solicitor.

A mounted hooded merganser duck, with suitably engraved plaque, will be donated by the township to the Deep River Jubilee Committee, to be awarded as first prize in the Merganser Sailboat Regatta during the town's July Jubilee celebrations.

Road superintendent Charles Delahunt reported the three municipal dumps at Stoncliffe, Bissett's and Deux Rivieres had been cleaned and burned with sand-fill being done as well at Deux Rivieres. Council plans to review the condition of the township roads in particular the Deux Rivieres area.

Council voted to sponsor all township walkers in the local Miles for Millions walk at Deep River on May 9 to the extent of five cents a mile.

Doris Donnelly, former township clerk-treasurer, was appointed to the community centre board, replacing retiring member Ralph Turcotte.

It was learned at council that the services of Seegmiller Construction, who are presently working on Highway 17 in the area, have been obtained to grade the rink and ball field areas at the township's hall and community centre at Stonecliffe.

This work will be done shortly. Council was advised that any I ratepayers with questions about assessment may call the assessment officer, Mr, G. J. Walsh.
