Clerk Reports Great Interest in Land Sale

When Council of Head, Clara and Maria met in regular session last week, the Clerk-Treasurer reported that most of her time is taken up these days answering telephone enquiries on the upcoming land sale in the municipality. As advertised, bids are being accepted by Council on a parcel of some 88 acres in the Bissett's area. All bids will be opened at a special Council session on Tuesday, Oct. 23 in the Stonecliffe Town Hall, at 7 pm.

The Municipal Recrea¬tion Committee, in report, plans to hold its Annual Winter Carnival on Saturday, February 2, 1991, and Council gave its approval at this meeting. A new carnival button, featuring a snow- machine, has been designed and ordered. The Carnival Time snowma- chine poker run, which attracts entries from far and wide, is now the major event of the day, although broomball and log-sawing contests, snowshoe races and other games have a steady following.

Also on the list of MRC 1991 events is a Summer- fest Celebration on July 27 with ballgames, beer gardens and big bingo games. It is noted that a new electric bingo blower machine has been ordered by the Committee for use by all community organizations.

Following a series of nuisance break-ins at the Stonecliffe Municipal Offices, a new alarm system has been installed at a cost of some $1300. During the meeting's coffee-time, members of Council had fun tripping the new alarm -just to make sure it works - and maybe to give each other a chilly scare!
