Seniors enjoy annual picnic

by Mary Ellen Boudreau

Councillor Margaret Watts reported on the Annual Seniors Picnic Party at this week's regular session of Head, Clara and Maria Council.

Held on Wednesday, June 20, in the Stonecliffe Town Hall, some 35 seniors joined in the fun of horseshoes contests and lively euchre games. All participants enjoyed the taped old-time tunes, the entertainment, the visiting, and the picnic-party supper served in late afternoon.

Building Official's Report

June has been a busy month for the new Building Official, Garland Juby. Six building permits were issued covering two new cottages, and renovations of roofing, basement, bathroom and walk-in cooler. As well as carrying out inspections of on-going construction, Juby also issued two trailer permits. Because of the difficulty in finding trailer owners at home, a call-card will be left at the site advising of the owner's responsibility for trailer fees.

Clara dumpsite

The Ministry of Natural Resources advise of leaseholder agreements in effect, including one with Canadian National Railways, that are now interested in using the municipal waste disposal site in Clara Township at Deux Rivieres. Questions on the feasibility of use of the site in winter months will now be directed to CN.

Library report

As reported by the Library Board, two new magazines will be made available to the public. Included are Organic Gardening and Seasons, a publication of the Federation of Ontario Naturalists.

ATVs

All terrain vehicles are again posing a hazard to travellers on municipal roads. Ontario Provincial Police assistance will be sought in enforcing the law which prohibits the use of ATVs on Townships roads.
