Big winners during Stonecliffe Carnival


On a crisp, cold but beautiful day, some 281 contestants took part in the 50-mile poker run at the Stonecliffe Winter Carnival. Drawing the lucky cards were: 1st - Brian Behm of Hardwood Lake, who also claimed the special $100 prize for a hand which included four aces. He was followed by Rene Sequin and Melvin Turcotte. Braving the weather was the youngest contestant, Scott Graham, 2, while the most senior honours went to Ron Dodds, aged 39 plus.


The lucky carnival button winner of $500 was Robert Smith of Almonte. Other button prizes went to: Tommy Morin, Bradley Lance, Gail Day, Ray Granville and Barclay Bramburger.


Log-sawing results: Men's first - Eugene Chaput and Harold Hass; second - Earl and Raymond Francoeur; ladies: first - Karen and Stephanie Leclerc; second - Sarah Bowes and Marilyn Chaput; mixed: Karen Leclerc and Bob Carey; second - June McQuestion and Regis Jennings; children: first (a tie) - Angela and Adam Desjardins, second - Tabatha Thompson.
