Area Township Will Renovate Stonecliffe Community Centre

MACKEY STATION (Special) — Tenders for renovations to the township community centre at Stonecliffe will he called shortly, it was decided this week by the community centre board of the Townships of Head, Clara and Maria. The present structure, a former two-room school, is not large enough for most functions, so it is planned to re-locate the washrooms in an addition to be built on and open the two rooms into one. There is a small kitchen and it is believed when the renovations are completed, the community centre will provide a greater service to the area.

The teenagers continue to use the building as a Drop-In Centre on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights. A shuffle board has 'been installed as well as a juke box and the young people are now saving towards the purchase of ping- pong equipment.

The secretary, Mrs. Paul Sennack, reported that the Country Ramblers with John Bingley, had been engaged for monthly dances to be held the third Friday of each month with the exception of during the Hunt when dances will be held each of the two Friday nights at that time. At the Friday, Nov. 13 dance a draw will be made for $1,000. Tickets at 1 each are now available from centre board and Mrs. Paul Sennack, Bissett's.

At the regular council meeting, which followed the community centre board meeting, Reeve Loretta Boissonneault presented road superintendent, Charles Delahunt, with the certificate, which he had earned for road superintendent, after three week courses, taken in three consecutive years, from the T, J. Mahoney road school at the University of Guelph.

A report on the recent Renfrew County meeting on the Wildlife Interpretive Centre held at Champlain High School, Pembroke, was given by Councillor Ernest Boudreau. It was indicated no immediate plans are made for this centre and further meetings will be held with department of lands and forests officials in attendance, so that the parties concerned will be in agreement on two or more possible locations for the Centre in Renfrew County. These recommendations -will then be presented to the department of Indian and Northern Affairs for further consideration.

Old cars and other abandoned vehicles, parked within sight of Highway 17, were discussed at recent county council meeting, Reeve Loretta Boissonneault reported, and individual councils requested to take steps for their disposal.

Road superintendent, Charles Delahunt, reported approximately $6,000 spent on road work in the township this year.

Since the present township building bylaw is apparently inadequate, township solicitor, C. A. Merridew, will be asked to re-draft a more suitable bylaw.
