I fouml your business ineu cautious, yet €ijterpi'isi!:g, and not at all given to itok on tlit: ciailj tide. Now this is what I lilie to see. If there is one ihiug more iliau anotl'er which is cal- cuIatLil to give one the blues, or to help this w.irld Icok dismal, ic is poor- mouthea people. I stuyed over Sun- day in jiarkdale and attended divine Bervice at the ilethodist church. This is without exception the finest edifice I have seen outside the cities. I was amazed however, after the sermon, to gee that young man who passed around the collection plate on the south side, with luD Gloves on. I was further jnrpnsod to see such a meagre col- lection. The beauty of the surround- ings and apparent wealth of the people (judging from appearance) would nat- urally lead a strangerto expect a cor- respoudmgly liberal collection. McK. Walter's TaHa. Holland. Centre. {Special Correspondence.) Mr. Robert Carter who, for the past three or four months, has been visiting his friends and relatives in this vicini- ty, Las -lepHr ted for the prairie prov- ince. It is soniewliere about eight ycius sir.ce Bob. first left Ontario and during that time he has successfully laid i;.., luundation of a home for him- self and in his mind's eye some, lair partner. But alas 1 In the latter case poor Bob was doomed to disap- pointment, lu a great many parts of Manitoba women are scarce articles, and as a result many well-to-do bache- lors come to Ontario to seek life part- ners. Such was Bob's case. He be- came deeply enamoured of one of the rerij rinoit girls in the country. For a time everything ran on as smoothly as could be desired. In his imagination iJob built many airy castles. Bliss and happiness were surely his. But alas it wai; but the calm before the storm. Blinded by love, for love it was, 1.0 could not see the gathering storm. Perhaps if Bob had been a little more on the alert he could have seen the lowering brows of jiaterual authority. Not awakened to his posi- tion, however, was he until the frown- ing looks broke into open words. Now it was that Bob showed his true cour- age, stood his ground and faced the music like a little man. More than once were these word conflicts indulg- ed in and on one occasion the iritated parent threatened to skull the ardent wooer of his daughter wiLh a hand- spike. Human nature could not stand this and neither could Bob. Letting his temper get the better of his judg- ment he would, had it not been for the interference of his beloved, have expressed his feelings towards the good old man and his son (for the son espoused the cause of the father) in other ways than words. But this could not last. Paternal authonty gained the ascendancy over love, and Bob is left lamenting his hard fate. It is to be hoped the influence of distant scenes, mosquito bites, and the active pursuit of "gopher" killing may so distract Bob's attention that bis wounded feelings may heal. An event occurred on Tuesday last which may well be remembered in the annals of the history, of the neighbor- hood of Holland Centre. Mr. and Mrs. Robert White, on the above named day celebrated the fiftieth an- niversary of married blessedness by a golden wedding. A very enjoyable day was spent Dy Mr. and Mrs. White and then: many consequential rela- tives. The tables were overloaded with the richest and most costly yiands, and judging from the brilliant display of beautiful gold presents Mr. and Mrs. White muBt be held in very high esteem by the entire community. We heartily wish Mr. and Mrs. White many more years of doable life. A TEIP TO MANITOBA. Iiast year I went to Maaitoba oa tee G. P. B. Farmers are very much discouraged at the cold, backward weather their appearance is that sometimes known as "down in the moath." Mr. t Nixon was the delegate from Dundalk to thj District meeting in Markdale this week. Eey. Geo. Buggin, of your village, was in Dundalk on Friday last on church business. A fifld of gold and silver is reported not many miles from Dundalk. We have it on good .authority, and it is said the mine will be a rich one. A citizen of our town has secured the property on which the find is located. So far the location is a secret confided to only a trusted few. Professional assay reveals the richness of the srur- face ore. W. A. Brown, Esq., of your village, was here on Tuesday. The cheese factory opened on Mon- day with excellent prospects. Eev. G. H.
