The merchant eat a piece and told her it was a Jeek. Tne woman was snrpris- ed, as. according to the acooant. she had never seeu a leek, and did not know wha t it was. Watt, report- ed that there remains uncollected ou the 1886 roll $-530.02. The total amount of said roll is §7,970,87, and Mr. Watt had paid to tlie treasurer $7,785,62, showing an apparent overpayment of S324.77, as compared with the amount still appearing un- collected. The 1887 roll amounts to $8,442.95, and of this amount tlie treasurer has been paid §5,377.07, leaving a, balance still due of $3,065.- 78. The roll shows amount still un- collected $948,40, leaving a deficit of $.118.88. This amount Mr. Watt has apparently misappropriated. Allowii;g for the overplus on the 1886 roll, the exemptions and strikes-off, it is estimated the deficit will be m the neighborhood of $1,600, or there- abouts. Before that amount will be recovered there is likely to be a Bdit at law, as the sureties claim to 1^|* legal advice on the matter, to effect that they cannot beheld respon- sibie for the deficit, owing to the coun- cil having extended the collector's wne repeatedly after the date fixed DJ statute for the final return of the lou- The council, however, instmcted m clerk to notifiy the sureties of the ap- parent deficit, and that they "m^ held responsible therefor. Mr. MM- hew Robinson was appointed to oMB- plete the collection of the still unpaid on the roll. between » A unique agreement '-- Oxford farmer and his wife }a»J^^ come to hght daruuj » P"'"'*!,^ ammation at the Court Honse^ a farmer wanted to mortg«e ptftf Huron Erie Society, first refused to be » to the bargain, but finally oomi ed on the husband «^^\^ agreement that in case he or absented himself from n»°r^ hours at a stretch while tbemonB^ was in force the propertv ^J^^ eoma th^ wtla nronertv of the W come the sole property MARRIAGES Lra-R»»oii»«â€" A» the «»*^."30ft brUe's parents, Miij. by Bar.
