London, May Qsh. â€" There is a temporary lull just now in Boulanger's upward march, but his boom may be expected to blossom out again in full force very soon. Thf. muni- cipal elections, which are soon to come off in the different div.s'.ons of Paris, and in 36,000 and odd different communes in France, will be practically demonstrations for or against this latest wuuld-be savior of the country, and the pilgrimage which Bjulanger intends to make through the rural districts in his own interests will give us, no doubt, plenty of excitement. The General's latest scheme for cultivating popu- larity has been an extensive and charitable bazaar, orgauiZi;d by society women, which has just wound up in a comical fashion. The General bought all kinds of trash, scattered his napoleons freely, asked for photographs, not always those of the hand- somest women, gave away any number of his own iu return, and made himself very popular, it seems, however, that he man- aged in some way to offend the lady Presi- dent of the society. Perhaps he didn't ask for her photograph. Any how, this digni- fied person came out in a most ridiculous letter, declining to have anything to do with a parcel of women who had so de- meaned themselves. Tne result was a break up in the very fashionable organizi- tion. HOW the kaiser spends the DAT. He does no more than ia necessary of oflS- cial work, and relieves the tedium by chang- ing his apartment. He ia wheeled from his bedroom to the hall under the cupola, where he receives oral reports thence to his study, where he spends some time reading, and thence to his bedroom, where he rests. His condition is certainly a credit to Dr. Mac- kenzie, and everything indicates that the Empsror has again entered rpon a period of comparative freedom from the worst symp cup i it ii }eorge iwered; iderment â- ^Sf**' teas ad MB. Woman as a Martjr. History reoords tiie sofferings of oonntlen martyrs, and we read of them with wimder and sympathy. But there are living to-day in our midst thousands of other martyrs who have far strmger claims upon our considera- tionâ€"women who are sofferers from those ailments peculiar to our sex, our wives, daughters and sisters, perhaps, whose lives are an unremittiag round of snfferintr. " Is there no relief ' they cry. Yes, there is Dr. Pierce's Favorite Prescription will re- move that "dragging down" feeling, will banish that backache, will restore every function to its normal condition. To all suf- ferers from femrle complaints â€" and their name is Legionâ€" we say get the " Prescrip tion" at once it will be worth far more than its weight in gold to you. It is proposed to establish in Bethany (the town of M*ry and her sister, Martha, where the Lord raised LazMus from the dead) a home which shall form a centre of Christian work. The village has to-day about five hundred inhabitants, who live in squalor and die in ignorance of the Gospel. A Voluntary Statement. The Writer of this paragraph once had an elder and only brother. Brought up to- gether, we were almost inseparable, hopeful and ambitious. Exposure planted the seeds of consumption in the elder, any in a few weeks, in the month of May, ' good store of flower ' were stuck round about his winding- sheet." Every atten' ion and every remedy that love could give or obtain were unavail- ing. Since that sad day, I have learned, through the most trustworthy authority and from experience in its use, that a real rem- edy now exists, that of Dc. Pierce, called the " Golden Medical Discovery." A thousand pities that it was not discovered ages ago, but how thankful tne present gen- eration should be that it can now avail it- self of so potent a remedy. Religion would not have enemies if it were not an enemy to their vices. Symptoms of Catarrh. A profuse auu many times excessively of- fensive discharge, with " stopping up" of the nose at tioii-.s, iuipairTnent of the sense of smell and taste, watering or weak eyes, impaired hearing, irregular appetite, occa- sional nauesa, prrsure and pain over the eyej, and at times in the back cf the |,head, occkbional chilly sensations, cold feet, and a feeling of lassitudee and dioility, are symp- toms which are common to catarrh, ]|yet ail of them are not present in every case.
