Our brass band treated our citizens to "unusic from the old tin horn" on Saturday night last, which was much appreciated. Do it more times. It is said that the barbers of the village of Blyth have raised the price for shaving Scott Act sympathizers to 15 cents owing to the sudden leng- thening of their faces after the recent repeal. The Farmer's Advocate for May is up to former numbers in point of interesting profitable information to all interested iu the farm and garden. Basb Ball. â€" A meeting for the purpose of organizing tor the coming season, will be held in Mr. Curry's store, Friday evening next, at 8 p. m. The appetites of children call for the healthy acid of fruits, and they ought to have it in abundance. Small fruits, such as strawberries, raspberr- ies and curraDts,ought to be grown on every farm. But curiously enough many farmers never think of growing them. The "small fruits" somebody has said, "are like salvation, objects of general desire and universal neg- lect." On Friday evening, May 11th a sec^ oud Junior Lacrosse Club was organ- ized under ihe name of "Young Sham- rocks." The Thornburj News is a bright newsy paper â€" last week it had eleven items in one column from the Mark- dale Standard. A by-law was carried in Meaford. last week, by 114 majority, to raise $8, 000 to supplement the Govern- ment grant for harbor improvements. K by-law granting $8,000 towards the erection of a hospital was voted on and carried last Friday in Gait. W. H, Smith, grain buyer of Thorn- bury and Clarksburg, has bought a farm in St. Vincent and is going into stock farming. Shelbume is trying to organize two brass bands a male and a female. If competition should prove the "life of trade" in this particular, two lively bands may be expected. ., Durham people are going to submit another b-Iaw to raise $8,000 for Mr. McGowan's roller mill which is being built, the late by-law for which was quashed owing to some technical irregularity. There is a general feeling through Ontario in favor of early closing of shops, and many towns and villages, are adopting: it.
