A meeting of the "Maids of Mark- dale" was called for Friday evening the 22nd nit. but owing to the severity of the weather and the small attend- ance it was adjourned until last Tues- day evening when there was a full attendance and all took a lively inter- et^t in the proceedings. The minutes of; last regular meeting was read and approved A vote of thanks was pas^sed to the editor of the Standabd for publishing the saoie. The names of Jli Artley, Rev. Mr. Graham and C. W\Kutledge were added to the list of leap T^ear targets. They vrere each considiered as deserving the most seri- pdB Consideration and should, if pos- eiblei be captured before the year closes. A question of importance arose whi^h called forth an animated and prolonged discussion, viz. â€" whether or not extra-ordinary means should be usefl m order to accomplish the desired enci while some contended that it wo^ld be necessary, in some cases, to ue^ every strategy in order to success; others hotly opposed any means jther than moral suasion, together with the fliliuence of "cupid" and leap year liberties, and for the honor of the As- Bo'ciatiori they should combine against coiintenancing any questionable tac- tiee. This brought several to their feet who strongly opposed being so "straight laced" or handicaped by the Aissociation, and also spurned the in- sinuation oi "'questionable tactics." In the* meantime a resolution was penciled as follows â€" Moved by Miss Anderson, seconded by Miss McKenzie, That this Associa- tion cannot countenance the use of any special means which will not sqaare with the "golden rule" and that any member thus transgressing shall be expelled. This was consider- ed quite too binding and was strongly opposed by many. The yeas and nays being demanded were taken resulting as follows â€" agement ia as much as possible like that of a christian home, it is under the direction of a Board of chrigtiaa ladies who take an interest in the wel- fare of those who avail themselves of the privileges there provided. Thk Deacon and the Goat. â€" An Orillia correspondent writes us that an amusing occurrence took place in the Presbyterian church of that town last Sunday, that was not in the line of the regular services. A William Goat, owned by a worthy citizen of the village on the Couchiching, wan- dered into said chnich to make obser- vations, but evidently not iu a worship- ping state of goatmiud. One of the deacons proceeded at once to eject his goatship from the sacred ediffice, but he not being satisfied with being treat- ed in that way, eyed the deacon, care- fully sized him up, and uncerimonions- ly hoisted the worthy pillar of the church over one of the pews into the lap of an elderly lady. The sensation created can be better imagined than Jpscribed. After this fanny exercise for Easier morning, the animal quiet- ly walked out of the church. â€" [Bame Advance.
