The steamer City of Owen Sound struck on Robertson's rock, off Clapper- ton Island, Lake Huron, about foor o'clock on Monday morning, and snnk in about half an hour. The crew reach- the island in safety, whence they were rescued by the steamer Campana and taken to Collingwood. The vessel and cargo are a total loss, and the crew lost everything but the close they had on at the time the vessel struck. There were no passengers on board. The City of Owen Sound wafl loaded with 24,500 bushels of com for Dunn "Thompson, of Montreal, and 411 pack- ages of fish for Smith Keighley, and Leckie, of Toronto. The City was builtinl875 at Owen Sound, by J.' Simpson, rebuilt in 1884 and 1886, had a registered tonnage of 598 tons, classed Ali. She was valued at $29,000, was owned by Smith Keighley, of Toronto, and was insured in the Western Pool for $31,000. In the fall of 1884 she went ashore on a reef at Peninsular Harbor, Lake Superior, and lay there all winter. She was taken off in the spring and rebuilt at Owen Sound \nth great care, a large amount of money, about $18,000, being expended on her in rebuilding and repairs.
