A DECIDED HIT. Hagyard's Yellow Oil touches the right spot every time when applied for rheumatism, neuralgia, pain, sore- ness or lameness, and mternally for colds, sore throat, etc., it is equally infallible. Another Illicit Still Seized. Last Wednesday Inland Revenue officer, R. A. Hartley, received inform- ation to the efiect that an illicit still was in operation in the Township of Tossorontio, a fdw miles from Liuld on the N. N. Ry. On Tursday he proceeded with Constables Greer and H. Neelands to ferret out the matter. They had little or no trouble as Constable (xreer was well acquainted with the locality. Everything wa» found as represented, the still in operation and the operator, Chas. R. Cherry, in |he act of making ready for manufacture. They arrested Cherry, who it appears was formerly a hotel- keeper m the township of Nottawasaga and had been refused a license by the commissioners last year. The officers seized the still, worm and appurten- ances and destroyed them. The prisoner was brought to Banie the same night and placed in gaol. The following day he appeared before Mayor Sewrey and Mr. John Laird, J P. He acknowledged the charge and said he had been led into it by others. He was fined |»100 and thirty days in gaol. This is the seoond still seized by these officers and the, cmvic?on tf the owner secured inside of a fort-^ night and they are keeping a, ^hi^ look out for similu alaUs Bai4 to be in, operation in th^c yfiO'in*jRrw«BMne QazOi*. -:-i^' ^â- â- ' •â- "*; â- ' AccmKMT. â€" On Simday afternoon as the C. P. B. snow plough was clearing the track after the storm of the morning, when between Williamsford and Berkeley, it struck a man who was walking on the track. His right arm was broken in two places, and his shoulder severley crushed. He was a tinsmith from Fort Wayne, Indiana, and was tramping from Markdale to Owen Sound, intending to work at R. P. Bntchart's. It was a narrow escape, for had he not ieen seen by^ the conductor, who happened just then to look out, ho would have been buried im the snow, and would probably have died before anything was known of the accident. He wat. brought here and placed in the gaol, where his injuries was attended to. â€" 0. S. Times. A PLANT OF RARE VIRTUES. Is the common and well-known Burdock, it is one of the best blood purifiers and kidney regulators in the vegetable world, and the compound known as Burdock Blood Bitters possesses wonderful power in diseasen of the blood, liver and kidneys and stomach. Windows should always be so con- structed that they may be opened at both top and bottom, and where a sleeping room is small, a few inches of space at top and bottom to let foul air out and admit fresh, will never do any harm unless the occupant of the. room is very extremely delicate. Some imagine that night air is deadly. Let me ask whether it is more deadly to breathe pure night air than impure night air? and whether it is not night air that a person breaths at night, whether the window is open or not? the only differf nice being that when night air comes in frcbh from the out- side it is comparatively pure, whereas when the window is tightely closed the air inside from bemg breathed over and over ajirain is more or less poisonous. For early potatoes, ^f^iii^jic^^ rich, mellow soil as soonv^i^e ffbst is out of the ground. You'i^!^h|^^'i^lant too early. Until th^ plants appear, severe frost will not \^va\ them. When the plants are up, a frost tnll some times destroy the crop, or |kt any rate, seriously retard or injurtilv. A piece of paper, or a light covering of soil will save the plant. For winter potatoes, select a variety that pnsteHses at least four pomts, viz i quality, vigorous growth of leaves to resist the potato bugs, a good keeper, and pro ductiveness. When the potatoe bugs first ap- peared, everybody planted early varieties of potatoes^ in hopes of get- ting ahead of the bugs. Now that he know how to keep the bugs in check, we can plant later kinds. As a rule, the early varieties cannot yield as well as the later sorts, which have a longer season to grow in or if they do in- exceptional cases, it is probably owing to unusual richness cf land. On ordinary land, other things being equal, a late variety will yield better, and keep better (the next spring), than the early varieties. A late variety^)f potato should be planted as early as the soil can be got into good condition. If you do not wish to plant early-^or perhaps we had better say, if you are behind with your work, and cannot plant ab early as you wish, plant an early variety, Tlie later you plant, the earlier should be the variety planted. The same principal, or rule as to planting, applies to cabbacres, cauliflowers, tomatoes, cucumbers, melons, turnips, corn, beans, peas, etc. The earlier the variety, that is, the quicker it matures, the later can it be sown or planted.â€" u4mertcan..4x/n- cuhuristfor 4pril. m k.
