Cute. â€" A citizen says We had the fun of witnessing rather a "cute" trick this week a farmer sold a load of hay; after unloading he returned to weigh the wagon when the buyer noticed that the absmt minded farmer had forgotten the binding pole, (a 75 lb. saphng) and also that he himself had been on the hay when weighed, after being thoroughly reminded of those minor matters the pole was fetched and weighed together with the man which made a difference ui favor of the buyer of 280 lbs. such exhibitions of absent mind, and rustic innoceuse should have publicity. The audience, which was a large one for this time of the year, was thoroughly appreciative and many timts applauded the perform- ances of the actors. Miss Youghau and Messrs. Baird and Mulligan are excellent on the stage, aud made during the course oi the eveuing manv hits. Carter, a quiet, inoffensive farmer of that neighborhod was shot at by two of them a few eyenings ago and had a veiy narrow escape with his life. I'he bullet grazedhis forehead, cutting itsjtraek through the skin. It appears that when he came in, in the evenmg his children informed him there were two men up stairs. Immediately making his way up, he just got there in time to see them escape through the window. It was later in the night, while stauding in front of the door, that a shot was fired at him from be- hind a pump platform in front of the house. Mr. Carter has always more nr less money about him and it was doubtless this the scoundrels were after. This is the second attempt that has been made to rob him." ^ooMbsls^tiui evUfenoe of lii|eV Otfe ap- pfioatiob will make ibe moat stabbaridy eel «iid nragfa hands bMotifally 8 tisd nhite. About a monih ago conniderable stir was caused in the northwestern part of L'orouto where the news spread that Johnathan Made] I, builder, of Liippincott street, had eloped with Mrs. Martin, organist in the College street Babtist church. Madell sung in the choir. The tuneful pair were both married and had two children each. They disappeared suddenly, and their exact whereabout could not be ascertained. At 2.80 Sunday morning they put in an appuarance at their respective homes, aud as both were truly penitent they were wel- comed back, promising never to do it again.
