On Wednesday night of last week an infant child, aLandoned by its parents, was left at the door of Rev. Mr. Burwash of Homing's Mills. The Reeve of Melanutbon, promptly gave it in chargtj of a nurse. It is thought that thfc mother wishing to abandon it left it there in the hope that it would be kindly cared for. 355 persons left Duudalk station to take in the celebration ot the 12th in Shelburue. Eaily m the afternoon close to one thousand people iiad gathered the Orangemen as well as others were highly pleased with the treatment they received at the bancs of mine host, Mr. Yogan, who had made ample provision for the wants ot the inner man. The majority of the crowd repaired after dinner to the grove a!?joiuing the village, where John Lyons, Esq., of Markdule, gave an able and comprehensive address on orangeism, Mr. of the Sauble also addressed the audience with a few well chosen remarks. About 4 o'clock the company dispersed after an order- ly and enjoyable day's ouliug. arri38pari;deBC8* Notice. â€" We wish it distinctly understood that we do not liold ourselves i-es]iousib'e lor the opinions expressed by our correspondents! To the Editor of the St^xndard. Dead Sia. â€" The PricevUle Public School Examination took place on June 27th. The school room was tastefully decked with flowers and green boughs, by the pupils and teach- ers. A lengthy programme was tuccessluliy carriei: out under the direction of Mr. Dixon, Teacher, of Sr. Depariment and Miss NichoU, Teacher of t!ie Jr. Department. The larger pupils were examined at length in tlie various branches of their studies by W^m, Si ell ex-Teacher, Revs. Ed- monds and McLoud, the afternoon closed with recitations, dialogues, singing c., by the children of both dep.irtments. The attendance of par- ents was tolerably good, quite a num- ber turned out and were much gratified with the progress being made by the schoci in general, which reflects gre»t credit od tbe Teachers. Several short addresses were made by the gentlemen present, encouraging teachers to further ef orts and scholars to greater progress, and daring the next hdf year we expect a much greater advance. Hhe next examination, we hope to see a larger tumoatandi a real good time, and Priu.?\ille school will stand tecond to none \n the ^ownship^ From our own correspondent. The 12th of July passed off quietly in this place this year, the sound of Fife and Drum and the march of the Orangemen enlivened our stieeis for a while in the morning and as it was almost midnight e'er the men and music retm-ned, but few were out to witness the procession pas^ through. One good brother with the fi^e whose wind we suppose had failed him hod ceased from his labors and fallen from the ranks, but bis compfinion with the Drum sticks failed not in his duty and it could not be said, not a sonucl of the Drum was heard. The Ice Cream Social under the auspices of Flesherton Division Sous of Temperance which was held in the Town Hall last Wednesday evening, was fairly successful, there was ice- cream in abuudauco, an interesting progn'm was gone through with, and a very pleasant evening was spent. Dr. Christoe occupied the chair.
