ACf J, Slices* The Methodist Church of Markdale, have wonnd np the business of the past coDference year, and report a clean sheet in evejty paiticular. The minister's salary is paid in fall; this of coarse is nothing new, as the do it every year, bat then there was a debt hanging over the chareh and parsonage for a namb'er of years, both of which are now entirely wiped oat The sarsonai^o property compnzes. haip^ acre on Mark Street, whioh is a most handsome location and a valu- able property with a comfortable brick dwelling thereon, while the church premises which corners that of the parsonage also contams half an acre,^ fronting on Toronto Street, and is a very handsome and valuable property. There is a probability, should the har- vest be a bountifull one.ot a fine brick church being erected in 1886. Too much credit and thanks cannot be given the ladies of the congregation for their untiring and saccessfdl efforts in assisting to bring about this very desirable state of affairs. ©arr68panda«;i)e» NoTics. â€" ^We wish it distinctly understood 4hat we do not hold oorselTes responsiUe for the opinions exprassed by oar eorrespondents Tandelear. To Vu Editor of the Stakdabd. Sib,â€" I haye read with pleasure the "Parable" in last weeks Standabd, 410W I do not persume to act as judge |for the public, but as this is not the ' Srst time the ^pance has takeii upon itaeH to say what is, or is not fit for public reading, and as it has .also re- fused the public the pnvilage of read- ing, that they may judge for them* selves. I would just like to remark that I think it quite probable that the 'blasphemy' was some place in the vicinity of the Advance office when that parable met its besetting sm, and also, I thinlc it sometimes beholds 'through a(smoked) glass darkly ,a8 the la^t time I saw it, it was "sucking vehemently" at the other end of an immense pipe.
