A ohaBge was made in the property qualification of municipal councillors at last session oi the Ontario Legis- lature, the particulars of wbicli may proye interesting to our readers, as our municipal election is drawing nigk. The change made really does not effect the qualification that has been in fcrce for several years past, but merely provides for the election ot others in certain circumstances in ad- dition to those possessed of the old qualification, which is still in force, as will be seen by the following extracts from pages 131 and 132 of the On- te.rio statutes of 1883 â€" "73. The persons qualified to be elected Mayors, Aldermen, Reeves, Deputy-Reeves, and Councillors of any Municipality, shall be such per- sons as reside withm the municipality or within two miles thereof, and are natural born or naturaUzed subjects of Her Majesty, and males of the full age of 21 years, and are not disquali- fied under this Act, and have, at the time of their election, in their own right, or in the right of their wiyes, as proprietors or tenants, a legal or equitable freehold or leasehold, or partly freehold or partly leasehold, or partly legal and partly equitable, rat- ed on their own names on the last revised assessment roll of the Muni- cipality to at least the value following, over and above all charges, liens, and encumbrances afifecting the same (1) In incorporated villages â€" Free- hold to $600, or leasehold to $1,200, (2) In Townsâ€" Freehold to $800, or leasehold to. $1,600, (3j In citiesâ€" Freehold to $1,500, or leasehold to $3,000, (4) In Townships â€" Freehold to $400, or leasehold to $800. And so in the same proportions in all Municipalities, in case the proper- ty is partly freehold and partly lease- hold.' To the foregoing has been added the following new sub-section "Bat if with any Township any such person is at the time of election in actual occapatiou of any such free- hold rate in his own name on the last revised assessment roll of said town- ship, he will be entitled to be elected as Reeve, Deputy-Reeve or Council- lor of said Township if the value at which such freehold is actually rated in said assessment roll amounts to not less than $4000, and for this pur- pose the said value shall not be affect- ed or reduced by any lien, incum- brance or charge existing on or affect- ing such freehold," Flesherton Station. Green has returned, and is now bound to keep the place for twelve months. We had about an inch of snow last Thursday. Mr. McTerr has added a story to the height of liis dwelling, and is re- pairing it generally. Very little worth noting this week, the indications are that winter is near but I suppose you know that your- self as well as the readers of the JStandabd. (The above was crowded out last week. Ed.) â- » â- True merit brings it? own reward, in the case of Burdock Blood Bitters it is rapidly bringing its reward in its increased sales, as a prominent Drug- gist recently said, "it now sells on its merits;" It is the grand specific for diseases of the blood, liver and kidneys, 5,000 bottles haye beea sold danng h e last three months.
