The weather during the past week baa been very blastering yet warm. The long tedioas winter has at last, like eTO'ything elM, come to an end. Plooghing has commenced and will likely be poshed torward vigoronsly owing to tiie great searci(y of feed. It was thought a4 one time that very few would attempt to make sugar this spring owing to the depth of snow in the bo^, yet it melted so gradually and yet quickly tJiat now yon can see camp fires all around. We notice that the council of Ar- temesia intend, at its next sitting,' to pass a by-law to prevent hogs and sheep from running at large. Why don't they include cattle as well What right has neighbor to be com- pelled to build a fence five or six feet high in order to secure his crop against my stock, or the stock of perhaps a non tax-payer in an adjoining munici- pality. We think if the council had said hogs and cattle, but we will see how it works. The above should have appeared last week but was crowded out. Union Carriage Works. Seeding has commeoMd. Very little sugar mi^ng this year. Some hare gone to Manitoba firom this locality, and more will likely fol- low. Mr. Wm. Summers has moTed to his farm, having succeeded in settling the difficulty in refrence to the title. Fall wheat looks bad, and the gen- eral opinion is that the most ol it will be plowed up and re-sown with spring grain. The Meaford Boad cheese factory has died a natural death, rival claims for site, and other causes assisted in killing it. Spring is at hand and we ai-e hav- ing very fine weather and it is indeed a welcome guest, robins and other spring burd? have put in an appear- ance. The milk hauling for this season, for Flesherion Cheese J^'actory com- mences the 7th of May, Ephriam, Brodie has secured the contract for this section. The Standakd, specially interesting to its numerous readers in this local- ity at present, the enquiry being â€" wonder if Observer or Mr. Kells will have anything m this week. Charlie Gilbert has become tired of the state of single blessedness, and taken unto himself a wife in the per- son of one Miss Craig from near Lyons Head. We wish them a smooth and prosperous journey through life. EUPHBASLA COUNCIL. Markdale. Dec. 2nd, 1881. Proprietor. 64. J. rriASSO]^, ^iSPJSTER, MASTER ANDDEP. REG a Chancury.
