He not being used to this sort of thing becitme rather uneasy, bat got cooled down a^n. Mr. Middleton made the remark, that he would be a nice man to be in the County Gonoeil, as he wtmU be liable t« be called to order. Mr. Nelson reminded bis opponent that he was the only man called to order at the present meeting. No reply. Further discord. Mr. B. J. Doyle, being present, asked to say a few mords. In his opinion the Township of Sarawak, which he had represented in the Coun- ty Council WM spoken of in a detri- mental manner. He gave the pro- ceedings of the County Council and his actions while there, and the ao- tioDB of Mr. Middleton, and spoke strongly against the use of such language as bad been used to-night by the representative of a township. Mr. Middleton here ordered him to stop. A little cross-firing took plaoe. after which Mr. Doyle took his leave, as did also Messrs. Helson and Mc- Millan, and a majority of the rate- payers, with cheers. Mr. Middleton rose tu reply, bat as the audience had thined out considerably he only made a few brief remarks. Next meeting is to be held at Beid's School House, on the 22nd. A tea meeting and cuuoeri was given by the ladies of the Presbyte- rian Church in the Fraser settlement. They had a large audience, and a good entcrtaiumcnt â€" proceeds about $80. A few of the boys from town went out and acted their part, but forgot part of ihcir dress â€" tlicir ears. The English Church people had a tea in Orauge Hail, here, on Tuesday ovoninK, 21st iust. Hall crowded plenty to eat iind to spare a pleasant eveniD» spent. Have not heard what proceetls were. To the Editor of tlic Stakdabd. FliR, â€" The approaching annual school meeting to which attention was called last week by Mr. Brown, is certaiuly an occasion of vital impor- tance, both iiuancially and otherwise, to every ratepayer of the section. I too, am of opinion that this matter cannot be pressei too closely upon onr attention thciefore as a ratepayer, I would like to impress my fellow rate- payers with the gravity of the situa- tion at the present time. As it is of tbe utmost importance to the well- being of the school, and for the inter- ests of the ratepayers generally, that the office of Trustee should be vested only ill tliosc of tried integrity aud honor we should exercise great cau- tion ill the choice of that ofiicial. We have ill our school section several ratepayers who have sons and daugh- ters in the teaching profession, some of these may very likely seek election at the approaching annual meeting, but if we expect to preserve our school from the clutches of an odious "family compact" we must be on the alert. No person whose personal or private interests would likely clash with his duty to the public, should be elected, lest the temptation to subordinate per- sonal preferences to public duty might prove too strong for him. I close, therefore, by repeating, feUew electors, be on your guard, be watchful and vigil en L Batepateb. Markdale, Dec. 22, 1880. «â-  Died, on Mondaj, D«Oj! 20tL, Elizabeth Wakcly, wi(o of Siunuel wkkely, of Proton, aged 32 years and 9 moattig. Mrs. Wakely was the daughter of Mr. Bicbard Ludlow, of Artemesia, and was bom m this Township in 1847. Her lively, cheerful aud kmdiy disposition gained her many friends in youth, whose attachment continued tbrougb life. Some ten years ago she was united in marriage to Mr. Samuel Wakely, and settled in tbe township of Proton, where by united idOustry tliey made a home which gave promise of comfort and ease shotild they live to enjoy it in advanced years. Some 18 ynars ago she united with the Method* ist church, acd has ever since contin- ued her connection with it for many years a member of Mr.McQuay's class, her kindly greatiugs will there be missed. In Apiil last she caught cold, the effects of which settled on her lungs, and soon developed the dread symptoms of pulmonary disease. Doctors Christoe. of Flesherton, Eob- inson, of Beel, and Wright, sen., of Toronto, were severally consulted, and tried what medical science could de- vise or suggest to stay the disease, but without avail. She gradually grew worse during the summer, and it be- came apparent that she would not be able to bear the severe climatic chang- es of our northern winter death had marked her for his prey and she pre- pare«l to meet her change with that thoughtful, yet calm demeanour which distinguishes true Christian character. On Sunday night she was attacked with a fit of severe coughing, after whicb she sank to rest. And whan the morn broke dim and lad, And gray witli snowy showers, H«r quiet eyelids closed «h« bad.
