We don't make up our minds on our own. This absence of personal moral judg- ment leads to mob morality." These opinions were expressed by the Rev. A. IM. Laverty, Padre at Queen's University, Kingston, Ont., in a sermon delivered to the students in Grant Hall. Around the text: "Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil," tht padre built his sermon to point out 'that there are times when the young people of today should not simply follow the crowd. Thei'e is the crowd which doesn't like foreigners, which finds it diffi- cult to understand non Anglo-Saxons but is unwilling to make the effort. There is the crowd \^hich refuses to take anything serious, which plays at work, dodges responsibility. There is the crowd which pokes fun at purity of thought, speech and action. In the world today, there is the crowd which says you must be "tight" to be terrific, or have one sheet in the wind to make any head- way in the social cuiTent â€" unmind- ful of the burnt-out hulks which have gone aground. There is the crowd which has no regard for integrity of speech and conduct. The padre's text is as modern as tomorrow's headline. ' No one can take youi- moral bear- inRs from you, and no one can take the consoquencps o{ them foi' you," the pader counselled. "You are on your own. You expect and demand that your best effort.s bo recognized as yours. You must expect and ad- mit that your worst efforts are labelled yours."
