McTavish & Sons received the contract for snow plowing of the village streets during the coming winter at $4.00 per hour, at the re- gular meeting of Flesherton Coun- cil on Monday night. Mrs. R. J. Buyd n^ceived the appointment to the Centre Grey General Hospital as representative of the village, along with Reeve K. G. Betts, wiio was elected at he meeting in Mark- dale on Friday last. By-law No. 10 was read the re- quired number of trmes and passed, setting the dates for the nomination meeting, and election is necessary, for Friday, November 25th, with the election on Monday, Dec. .5th. The next meeting of Council was set for Monday, Nov. 7th, due to County Council meeting the night of the regular meeting. The Council passed a motion for the purchase of two smoke masks for the firie department, as this equipment is needed for the firemen in cases where smoke is heavy in- side the building, the seat of the fire being more readilv reached. Juni'M P.oy Champion School: Durham. Conservatives Organize At Flesherton Meeting A Progressive-Conservative .As- sociation was organized in Flesther- ton on Thursday evening of last week. This was the first occasion that a meeting was held in Flesh- erton for the purpose. A fair rep- resentation of party s.apporters wa-i present for the meeting. The election of officers resulted in John W. Cook being elected as pri- sident of The Association, with E. J. Fisher as vice-president, and C. J. Bellamy as secretary-treasurer. The committee is composed of C. N. Richardson, Geo. Armstrong, Mr-. Wallace Hamilton and Mrs. Alex, .â- iberdein. Harry Kress of Durham, president of the South Grey Progressive-Con- servative Association, con(hicted the meeting through the initial stages and gave valuable advice and as- sistance in the formation of the new local .Association. John W. Cook read and explained the draft of the proposed new con- stitution, which consisted of a num- ber of precepts and rules which were intended to be a safeguard and a guide in the conduct of political matters by the new organization. The constitution was discussed and adopted, point by point. SKI TOWN WILL BE BUILT IN VALLEY VISITED BOYHOOD SCENES IN EUGENIA DISTRICr -Mr. and Mrs. Newt. Wright of <'arbon, Ata., visited with the for- iiier's cousin, Mrs-. Geo. Lawler, last week. He also visited the scenes of hi.s boyhood at Eugenia, wher^? he .vas born. He remembered well the old home, where tiie post office now is and says it hasn't changed much c-xcept for the addition to the eas-t side, where a wing was added. The falls, of course, are not wliat thev used to be, now only a trickle. He missed the old home of Mr. Robert Purdy. who kept the post office, and Mrs. Hadley, Mr. Purdy's sister. CEYLON PRESENTATION TO GOROX NICHOL AND BRIDE For the past few months efforts have been made to open up the Beaver Valley for the benefit of ski aiithusiaats of Ontario and Ohese efforts have now resulted in the for- mation of the Bfeaver Valley Ski Company for the construction of a ski tow on the hill .-ieciion of Mr. Frank Davis' farm, east of Vande- â- eur. Entrance to the ski-ing will be from the valley road, where th« tow will be located. Mr. W. Tui-ney i)f town has received the contract for the installation of the latest type of electric ski tow, and work will commence immediately. The company has been capitalized at :^10.0(XI.O(). The valley project iiaa bee!', promoted by Mr. Jack McLean of the Park Hotel, with tiie assist- ance of Clint Melville, director :>f winter sports promotion for the Province of Ontario and Mr. T. S. Cooper of Xfarkdale. The work is being started this Wednesday after- noon, when the first sod will b«i turned. Tlie program of building the flo- est ski tow in Cnada is being tinder taken with thg view of making :hkl district the winter playground at Ontario and with the formation of hills and accessibility for ski en- thusiasts, the dr\'.m should be mor* than realized. - Ross MeFarland, one of Ontario's foremost ski instructors, and chief instructor at Limbcrlost Lodge, Huntsville, for the past four years, will give ski instruction to the local ptopie and to his large following rf ski enthusiasts, and will reside in Flesherton during the months when ^ki-ing is supreme.
