Mer- cer on Dec. 8th, but owing to the weather the attendance waa small. Final arrangements were made for the bazaar which was to be held on Friday, Dec. ilth. The election of officers for the following year was held, as follows: President, Mrs. Jas. Winters; Vice-President, Mrs. Mere- dith; Secretary, Mrs. Jos. Wright; Treasurer, Mrs. Emerson Wright. The W. A. bazaar was held Friday evening and the weather man kicked up another storm for it, but a few people bravely turned out and a very enjoyable evening was spent. The proceeds from the sale tables am- ounted to around $35. Mrs. Bicknell of Toronto is visit- ing her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Wright. Mrs. Gertrude Seeley and Mrs. Wm. Benson spent a couple of days in Collingwood last wc?k. The W. I. held their December meeting at the home of Mrs. E. Buckingham on Thursday last, with a small attendance. Mrs. E. Hawton gave an account of the convention i n Toronto. A euchre and dance was arranged to be held Tuesday, Dec. 29th. Donations of $2 for seeds for Britain and $8 for the mobile can- teen fund. Red Cross work wa? dis- cussed after which the hostess serv- ed a dainty lunch. KIMBERLEY Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Earl Alexander on the arrival of m son in Collingwood Hospital on Sat- urday, Dec. 12th. Mr. Vincent Gilbert of B. C. is visiting Kimberley friends after an Absence of a number of years. The teachers, Mr. Holmes and Miss Hyles, and the pupils are busy these days preparing and practicing for the annual S. S. Christmas tree, to be held next week. Mis s Frances Soul is visiting her ister. Mrs. B. A. Carruthers. Mr. Jos. Buchanan of Vandelenr is with Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Buchanan a t the parsonagre. He intends staying with them for the winter. Pte. Ezra Fawcett of the Veterans' Guard of Canada spent a few days visiting relatives here. LADY BANK A Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all. Mr. and Mrs. Percy Semple and son, Royden, spent Sunday with Mr. a nd Mrs. Harold Fawcett, Kimberley. Our worthy teacher, Mrs. Martin, and pupils at Sunlight College are working hard to make their concert on Friday, Dec. 18th, a success. Come long. TWr. Andrew Graham of Livelong, Sask., has arrived in Ontario and will spend the winter with his son, Jack, and relatives in the vicinity. Mr. Ernie Semple of Toronto spent Sunday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Semple. Snow and more snow! CEYLON Mr. Will Beaton was in Owen Sound one day the past week. The Holdfast Club held their meet- ing at the home of Mrs. Melville Hogarth on Wednesday afternoon, Dec. i)th, with an attendance of about twenty members and visitors. The president, Mrs. Nichol, presided. Mrs. W. Beaton was to have given a report of the convention of the U.F. W-O., but owing to illness of a sister in Owen Sound, Mrs. Beaton was un- able to be present. Mrs. Nichol gave a paper on the origin of bacon and eggs. A contest conducted by Mr. Fisher, was won by Mrs. Kennedy. The Ladies' Aid held their annual meeting at the home of Mrs. H. Piper on Thursday last. The election of officers for 1943 took place and are as follows: President, Mrs. Will Gibson; Vice-Pres., Mrs. Melville Hogarth; Secretary, Mrs. John Mc- Williarti; Treasurer, Mrs. Percy Hunt. The Ladies' Aid will meet the last Thursday in each month. The year of 1942, now drawing to a close, was a very successful one for the Ladies' Aid. Mrs. Chas. Quesel and son, Ken, >f Owen Sound, Mr. Jas. Quesnel of Windsor and Miss Viola Schanks of O-wen Sound visited recently with Mr. and Mrs. L. Dnckett. Miss Helen Duckett spent the week nd in Owen Sound. The sympathy of this community is extended to the members of the family of the late Angus McMillan, who passed away on Sunday in the Markdale hospital. Mrs. Harry Huston returned to Oshawa on Monday, after a week's visit at the home of Peter Muir. Mr. H. Harrow of Windsor was a recent visitor with Mr. and Mrs. W. Beaton. Mrs. A. Stewart and J. P. visited with Miss Catherine Stewart, Reg.N., in Owen Sound a day last week. Mrs. N. Gilchrist of Dundalk was a week end visitor with Mrs. J. Knox and Mrs. Anna McMillan. The many friends of Mr. Robt. Vause of the O.D.R. are glad to know that there is an improvement in his illness and hope he will soon be in his usual good health. Mr. and Mrs. A. Sinclair, Dundalk. were Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Sinclair. Mr. Harvey Archihald. Violet Hill, was a week end visitor at his home. Miss I. Wefcer spent the week end at her home at Vandeleur. The Church of Scotland has given its Sessions power remove from the roll memibers who do not share the work and responsibilities of the church. Ottewell, 8th line, utter tained a number of friends a nd neighbors in celebrating t!:e 20th anniversary of their wedding day. A very pleasant time was spent and a delicious lunch served, which in- cluded a three-storey wedding cake aniFtically decorated. Th honore.l couple received many useful and lovely gifts of chinaware. They ap- preciate the kindness shown by their many friends and neighbors. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Baker and little son, John, of Tavistock, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Baker and little daughter, Gail, of Heathcote, Miss Betty Baker of Toronto, and the three sisters of Mr. Ed. Baker were visitors at the Baker home for the "golden wedding" event. We extend our sympathy to Mr Jake Williams of the village and the Stewart and McTavish families of Flesherton in their recent sad ber- eavement, in the death of Mrs. Ezra White, which occurred in Toronto on Saturday. Mrs. Martin and pupils of U.S.S. No. 1, Artemesia and Euphrasia, are holding a Christmas concert in the school house on December 18th. Friday evening, PORTLAW Miss AcKinnon and pupils are busy preparing for their concert to be held next week. Mrs. John McKee is suffering from a very sore arm. Mrs. Clarence Londry spent a few days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Boyce. Mrs. Fred Plantt is visiting this week in Toronto. Mr. Arthur Fisher of Ceylon is spending a few days at the home of his uncle, R. J. Fisher. The Fourth Line Red Cross unit met at the home of Mrs. Laurie Ped- lar Thursday afternoon, with only a few members present. It was decided to send $10 to the Christmas Cheer Fund for British Children. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Stanley Patton January 14th. Every 'arm machine is a fighting machine.
