The annual Chri8tma.s school con- cert was held in the school on Friday night with a large crowd in attend- ance A fine program of recitations songs, drills and dilogues were given. Every pupil did their parts well, and much credit is due to the teacher and pupiLs. Mr. Frank Betts acted as chairman in his usual jovial manner. Santa Claus arrived at the close of the program and presented eVery child with a gift and ii bag of candies and an orange. The proceeds of the evening amounted to$14.70. Mr. and Mrs. McDowell and Garth, Mr. Jack Fo.ster of Toronto and Miss Dorothy Foster of Corbetton spent Christmas with Mr. J. A. Foster and family. The annual school meeting will be held in the school Wednesday even- ing. Testing of the cattie for T. B. has commenced in this community. A few reactors were found in several herds on the 4th. line. Mr. Ned Croft has been engaged by several famers on the fourth line, washing their stables with his steam engine. Mrs. Marall Betts and two children. Moore has returned to work after spending the Christmas holiday at his home in Port Hope, Mr. and Mrs. Herbrt Eby and son, Live Stock Report â- (By Dunn & Levack, Toronto) With a moderate supply of some 1800 cattle for Tuesday's market, the trade was active and prices from 15 to 25 cents higher on cattle of good choice and quality. Calves featured the market, advancing sharply from 10 to 12 cents. The lamb trade was stea<ly. Hogs were steady to 10 cents higher. Choice weighty steers sold at from 7.25 to 7.50, fair to good, 6.50 to 7.25. Choice butcher steers and heifers brought from 7.25 to 'R50 with a few tops at slightly higher prices. Baby beeves brought from 8.25 to 9.00 for tops, medium to good 7.00 to 8.00. The stocker trade was steady, best breed and kind 6.00 to 6.50, common to medium 5.00 to 5.75. The cow trade was some better, choice heavy fat cows from 4.50 to 5.00 and choice heifery cows 5.00 to 5.50. Canners and .cutters, 3.00 to 3.75. Bulls were In good demand, best kind from 5.00 to 5.25, with bolognas of lighter weights from 4.25 to 4.50. Choice lambs sold at 10.75 and sheep sold readily, choice kind from 5.00 to 6.00. Calves were higher, choice from 11.00 to 12.00, fair to good lO.Oo to 11.00, common to med- ium," 7.00 to 9.00. The hog market was active and strong, most of the hogs selling alive at 9.00, with .some extra long hauls at 9.10. Sows sold at 5.St) to 6.00. The market will be closed next Monday owing to New Year's cele- brations. An interesting ^baptismal service was held in St. John's United Church Sunday morning when three babies received the rites: Elizabeth Anne Carruthers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Carruthers; John Crawford Stewart, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Stewart, and Donald William Taylor, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. Taylor. This Wednesday morning the temp- erature reached its lowest during the present winter, when it registered five below zero. A snow storm on Wednesday night and Thursday of last week assurred that there would not be a green Christmas this year. It was just one year ago that a heavy blizzard struck this district and inar- ooned cars in snow drifts and many people were storm-stayed in town.
