Eary, the evangelist who conducted the camp meeting of the Pilgrim Holiness church in Proton Station last Jun«, died suddenly at his home in Michigan la.it Wednesday. He was just twenty-three years ot age and leaves to mourn his loss his young widow. Rev. H, B. Jackson has returned home from Indiana. Mr. Lloyd Lyons has gone to Span- ish, Northern Ontario, to work with the King Paving Co. Miss Gertrude Lyons of Toronto visited with her father and sister here. Mr. Christendon of Emmanuel Col- lege was the guest of our student min- ister, Mr, Elliott, and preached very acceptably. Ice making commenced in Flesher- ton Arena on Wednesday last with George Akitt as caretaker. If the present weather continues skating will be in full swing this week. We are sorry to hear of the death of Mr. John Wesley Colgan which oc- curred at Mayville, Michigan. The late Mr. Colgan, who was in his 76th year, was a brother of Editor Colgan' of the Markdale Standard. Snow removal on the Provincial Highways Nos. 4 and 10 commenced last week with the heavy fall of snow. On Highway No. 10 Smythe of To- ronto is supplying a truck with a four-wheel drive for the snow plow, as the heavy drifts require greater power than with a rear drive only. On Wednesday evening of last week a number of friends and neighbors gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs, E. LeGard to say farewell to their grandson, Mr. Edwin LeGard, who is returning to his home in Glenside, Sask., after spending the past year here. Edwin left on Thursday morn- ing and will spend a couple of weeks with friends at Detroit before return- ing to the West. The evening was spent in dancing and card playing. We will miss him from our vicinity but wisli him the best of luck back home. ' On Tuesday evening a number of the mmbers of the Y.P.U. were guests of the Kimberley Y.P.U. and spent a very delightful time. The Eugenia society provided the program while the Kimberley society served a delic- ious lunch. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Woods and Mur- iel of Markdale visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. C. Martin and family. Ml". I. Smith of Flesherton visited ecently with his brother, Mr. Robt. Smith, who has been ill. We are sorry to report Mrs. 'Will Magee still on the sick list. Mr. Thos. Lever has been ill the past few days with congestion of the lungs and heart trouble. We hope the sick will soon all be well again. Miss Esther Magee is visiting in Kimberley at present. Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Proctor attended the funeral of the former's brother, the late Harold Proctor, on Thursday of last week. We extend our symp- athy to the bereaved relatives. Congratulations to Mr. Robt. Pur- vis who has obtained the office of deputy-reeve. We also extend best wishes to the reeve and councillors on being elected for 1939. Dobson' and George Dob- son have purchased trucks recently. A number from these parts attend- ed the opening of the new creamery at Flesherton on Wednesday. Mr. M. Roberts and Mr. Willard Benson have been cutting wood in Mr. Hayes' bush near Badgeros. Mrs. Dobson's niece, Mrs. White and son, of British Columbia, alsco her nephew, Lloyd Moore, of Saskatche- wan, have been visiting relatives in these parts. Mr. C. Short and Robert Long have bought a bush near Gibraltar and are busy trucking logs to Owen Sound. Those on the sick list this week were: Mrs. W. Poole, Mrs. E. Dobson, Mrs. Jack Graham and Mrs. Dobson Snr. We are glad to report that they are improving. Mr. Sam Sanderson and sons are busy cutting wood in Hewgill's bush. Mrs. Nettie Douglas, who has spent the past eleven years with her son, Maurice in the West, has returned to iU'i old home on the 12th line. Mr. and Mrs. Alex. Maxwell and family spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Mort. Sayers. Mr. and Mrs. Percy Semple spent Sunday with friends at Kimberley. The December meeting of Provid- ence Ladies' Aid was held at the home of Mrs. Dave Roberts, when ten mem-' hers were present. Mrs, McKenzie, the president, presided, and the meet- ing was opened by singing, the hymn "He Leadeth Me," followed with pray- ec by Mrs. Cutler. An exchange of Christmas gifts took place, after which the business part of the meet- ing and the election of officers .was held, the same officers continuing, as follows: President, Mrs. McKenzie; VicerPres., Mrs. Lome Tupling; Sec, ^ Mrs. Dave Roberts; Treas., Mrs, Frank Short; Buying Com., Mrs. D.
