Miss Lillian Buchanan visited with friends in Owen Sound last week. Miss Mickie Kidd has returned to Toronto after spending the summer vacation with Mr. and Mrs. Lundy Johnson. Mr. and Mrs. J. Adams and son, John, of Toronto spent a few days with Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Hutchin- son and Beverley. Mr. John Buchanan accompanied Mrs. IWm. Buchanan to Toronto and will visit friends in the city. Miss Phyllis Lee spent Sunday with friends in Owen Sound. Mr. and Mrs. Burnett of Mark- dale and Mr. Garnet Blair of Toronto were callers at the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. I. Graham and Miss May Graham. Mrs. Summers has returned to the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Bowles, having spent several weeks in the G. and M. Hospital at Owen Sound convalescing after a major operation. Mrs. W. J. F. Hutchinson spent a day in Thornbury. School reopened on Tuesday morn- ing with Mr. H. J. Thompson in charge. Mr. and Mrs. Will Hincks of Cey- lon were recent visitors with Mr. and Mrs. John Bowles. Harvest is completed and quite a bit of the threshing has been done. There were no less than four ma- chines in this community last week. MAXWELL Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Morrison are in Toronto attending the exhibition. Rev. S. Elliott and family have returned from their vacation. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Ros^s visited last week. School opened this week with Miss Kathleen Morrison as teacher. A large number of friends of Mr. and Mrs. 'John Seeley met in the Orange Hall on Friday evening, Sep- tember second, and tendered them a shower and dance and also to extend their best wishes, and welcome to Maxwell. At a suitable time Miss Kathleen Morrison read an address and Mr. Mel Sled made the presen- tation of a lovely set of cream and green graniteware. Mr. and Mrs. Seeley also received many other beau- tiful gifts. Mr. and Mrs. jBeeley thanked their friends in well chosen words and a veiy pleasant evening was enjoyed. Miss Beth Stinson has secured a position in a store in AUiston. Mrs. Somers is visiting her sister, Mrs. Merritt Nichol. There will be no church service at Inistoge the next two Snndays on account of Proton Station and Beth- el anniversary services respectively. Our anniversary services will be ar- ranged for Thanksgiving Sunday as usual. Mr. and Mrs. Lawson Lockhart of Detroit with the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Lockhart, of Clint- on are renewing acquaintances. We are especially pleased to pee that Mr. Jas. Lockhart is able to be around again even if not yet fully recovered from his accident last summer. Sacrament of the Lord's Eupper will be observed in St. Andrew's church next Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Brown and Marjorie and Mr. and Mrs. R. Law- rence of Durham were visitors last week at the home of Mr. H. Tucker. Mr. and Mrs. Blair were visitors last week at the home of Angus Mc- Lachlan. Messrs. Dave Brodie Hugh and Co- lin McCaul of Toronto were visitors last week at the home of Mr. Ben McKenzie . Messrs. John and Alex. Brodie returned with them. Mr. and Mrs. Archie McCuaig of Topcliffe visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Hincks. Mr. Donald Carson of Toronto spent the week end with his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Alex. Knox and Gar- net returned to their home in Toron- to after spending the past month visiting here. _ - . Mr. Murray Nichol of Ottawa is spending a week at his parental home. The following teachers returned to their duties for the coming year: Misses Anna McEachem to Walter's Palls, Elda Frook to near Walkerton, Beth Hincks to Atwood and Jean Hincks to Lisle. Rev. Mr. Taylor was back in the pulpit after spending two weeks' va- cation. Mr. and Mrs. John McFarlane of Toronto spent a few days visiting friends around here. Mr. and Mrs. Allie McLean and son, Clare, spent Thursday in To- ronto. Keep in mind the play "The Girl Who Forgot" given by Dromore Young People on September 16. This play comes highly recommended. Elliott, was back with us again last Sunday after spending a very refreshing holiday at Balmy Beach. Next Sunday there will be anniversary services held in Mount Zion Church. Week end visitors with Mrs. M. Little were Mr. Ernie Little of St. Thomas and Miss Minerva Little of Orangeville. Mr. and Mrs. Herb. McMillan and son, Harold, of Matheson visited the former's brother, Mr. Wm. McMillan. Master Donald Meldrum and Miss Evelyn Shier went on the children's excursion to the exhibition last Mon- day and Tuesday. Mr. and Mi-s. Amos Hislop and daughter of Clarksburg, Messrs Mervyn Little and Bob Meldrum vis- ited at the home of W. H. Little on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Plummer and family of Redwing, Messrs. Charles and Fred 'Wilkinson and Mr. and Mrs. Dave Glenn and family of Dun- can visited recently with Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Wilkinson. On Friday evening a miscellanoous shower was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Little for Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Little who have been spending a few days at Ed's home here. Mr. George Wilkinson visited on Sunday with friends in the Valley. We are having some early frosts but as yet they haven't done any damage. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Stevens and Mrs. Archer of Toronto called on Mr. and Mrs. J. 'W. Haney on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Peter Sherwood of Ceylon and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Knox and family of Newtonbrook visited recently with Mr. and Mrs. J!- W. Haney. Our pastor, Rev. Mr. Elliott, has returned from his holidays and oc- cupied the pulpit on Sunday. Mr. Dean Clinton of Toronto was u caller at the home of Mr. Garnet Magee one day recently. Mr. and Mrs. Gillespie of Toronto visited over the week end and holi- day with the Jamieson family. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Lehman and son, Hedley, of Toronto visited a few days with Mrs. Lehman's father, Mr. Jacob Williams. Hedley remained for a few days with his grandfather.
