Wesluy IIowRt, one of Mark- dale's highly estecmeU old residents, pasiied away early Tuesday morning as a result of injuries received Mon- day afternoon when a truck loaded with logs crushed his legs. Mr. Bowler was on his way home from the post otTice and when ci'ossing the street at the main corner he failed to notice the truck approaching. The driver of the truck, Mr. K. Edmunds, did his best to avoid an accident and had succeeded in getting almost by when Mr. Bowler's feet slipped and he fell partly under the truck., The rear whpfl run ovei- him and crushed his legs. He was picked up and rushed to Lhe liospital but the shock was too great and he passed away as stated. Wesley Bowler wa.s a son of lhe lute Mr. and Mrs. William Bowler, pioneer residents of Artemesia, and was raised on the Bowler homestead. East Backline. For a number of years he conducted a brick yard, retir- ing to the village nearly 25 years ago, lie was well and favorably known anil I his unfortunate end has caused deep ' sorrow in the village and community. ; Surviving are his widow, two sons. i and five daughters, namely: Gordon in the West; Harold in Markdale; Miss I Annie in Hamilton; Mrs. E. R. Ma- dill of Glenside, Sask., John M. of Port Arthur, Wallie and Samuel of Sault Ste. Marie, Mrs. F. P. Walton, Mrs. John McDonald of Sault Ste. Marie and Mrs. Alex. Carruthers of Eugenia. About 2S friends and neighbors were present. .Around the richly laden table the pre- valent spirit of good-fellowship and cheer, as evident in the words and faces of all, was characteristic of the ironeral fine sentiment of the occasion.
