During the evening the following address was read by Mrs. Maud Acheson and presentation made by Mrs. Charlie Best and Mrs. George Ludlow: Dear Ernie and Helen: We, you neighbors, take much pleasure in gathering at your home this evening for the purpose of spend- ing a social evening with you and offering you our congratulations on your recent marriage. We have all learned to admire your estimable qualities, Helen, during the past four years when you patiently guided and taught our little band of children at our childhood school, old No. 4, we are pleased that you have chosen to make your home in our midst and we extend to you the hand of welcome and friendship. You Ernie, who have grown to â- manhood amongst us, have always proved a good neighbor in every way and we feel sure that the same friend- ly co-operation shown by you and your wife with us all in the pa?t wil' continue through the coming years BUCKINGHAM (Intended for Last Week) The Thanksgiving service in the church here on Sunday, October 10th was well attended considering several neighboring churches also held special services. Rev. Orr preached a very appropriate sermon and a male quin- tette composed of Messrs. John and Jas. Hudson, Stewart McMullen and Russell and Burton Hudson favoured the congregation by singing an old favourite, "Steal away." Miss Minerva Conn R.N'., left last week to accept a position on the nurs- ing staff of a hospital in Peakskill, N'ew York. The Community Club meets this Wednesday afternoon, October 13, at the home of Mrs. Jas. Hudson. Mr. and Mrs. Neil McDermid, Rob Roy, visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Cox. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Davidson, with their daughter, Beryl and friend of Toronto, spent the week end and hol- iday with Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Davidson. Messrs W. J. Conn and Jas. Hudson have commenced logging operations in a bush purchased from Mr. Jas. Gillies. Several men and two teams are busy cutting and skidding the logs while Mr. Wm. Kerton and Mr. H. (Intended for Las* Week) Inistioge held a very successful an- niversary on Sunday. We were de- lighted with Rev. Mr. Eagle, a former pastor, of Toronto in the morning and evening. In the afternoon. Mi-s. Eagle gave us a message as only Mrs. Eagle could give it. The choir •was much complimented on its music Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Stinson return- ed last week from their honeymoon. We welcome Mrs. Stinson back as a permanent resident and neighbor. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Stinson have moved to their former home. Mr. Mel. Hawes of Bright spent Thanksgiving week end at Mr. .^^Ibeit Stinson's. Mrs. Hawes and Mary who have been hero for a couple of weeks returned to their home with him. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Coon and two children of Acton spent Thanksgiving •week end at the home of Mr. and Mr?. Albert Stinson. Mr. and Mrs. L. P. Killi".s and son Gordon also Ronnie Milns of Smithville, Mr. and Mrs. .Allen Par- son and son Burton, Toronto, vi.^itod at Chas. Moore's. Misses Verna and Bemice Hudson visited at their home here over the holiday. Miss Lillian Walters and Miss Lil- lian Price of Toronto spent Thanks- giving with friends here. Miss Dorothy Genoe returned to To- ronto last Saturday after spending the past couple of months with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Dave Genoe. Mr. Harold Johnson spent the week end at his parental home near Flesh- erton. Mrs. J. Wickens of Kimberley was a recent visitor with her daughter. Mrs. Art. Idle. We are sorrj- to report Mrs. Sara Smart still in poor health. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. N'oble Ward and Mr. and Mrs. Clif- ford Ward all of Kimberley who were recently married. READ THE "SMALL ADVTS^ Miss Margaret Scaife of Toronto was a welcome visitor for a we«k with her cousin. Miss Evelyn McDermid. who returned with her on Saturday for the winter in Toronto. Rev. H. E. Wright gave a fine syn- opsis on Sunday of the life and work of St. Columba, whom our church is named after. The date of his birth was 521. In the sixth century in Donegal, Ireland, he was detained at Tours on his way to Jerus.ilem. He had the reputation of being a great financier. lona and Islay, Scotland, were the scene of his early work, reaching out to Northemland. Eng- land, France, Switzerland and Italy. He died at the age of 76 and was as- sociated with the Waldenses for some time, who have the reputation of be- ing largely responsible for the pres- ervation of the Christian religion. The showery weather, (each one has their share of it) militates again- st the raising of potatoes, and one small field of barley, but hope springs eternal in the human breast. Mrs. W. G. McBride purposes mov- ing to Flesherton with her two boys, to accommodate them in their studies at High School there. The move Is a good one for the boys. Beaton presided over the meeting in a very capable manner. The roll call was an- swered by a donation to Mrs. Wood's family. Many useful donations were received. Considerable business was dealt with. Mr. F. R, Oliver was the guest speaker jnd gave a very interesting and helpful address which was thoroughly enjoyed. Miss Mae- phail was also present and read an in- teresting article. Lunch was served by the hostess and her assistants and a social time was spent over the tea cups. The November meeting will be held at the home of Miss May Stew- art, Miss Delia Macphail, Toronto, is visiting her cousin, Mrs. Bradey Ir- win. Hincks and fam- ily visited Wednesday with her sister. Mrs. Jack Calder. Holstein. (Intended for Laat week) At the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Hutchinson, on Monday, October 4th, Mr. J. W. WLlHamson passed quietly away. His death was due to the in- firmities of old age. He had lived with his daughter, Mrs. Hutchinson, here for the past four years, the past | year being bedfast. Mrs. Clive Dolan attended a party held in Markdale in honour of her grandmother who was celebrating her 82nd birthday recently. Mr. Sam Shaw is assisting Mr. F. Davis. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Sewell and Carman attended the Owen Sound fair on Tuesday of last week. Mr. and Mrs. H. I. Graham visited at Shrigley on Sunday.
