MAXWELL SHORTâ€" KIRK A lovely Muskoka wedding was that which was solemnized at the pleasant country home of Mr. and Mrs. George Kirk, Bracebridge, at high noon on Thursday, July nine- teenth, when their elder daughter, Annie Helena Mary and Samuel Dav- idson Short, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Short, Feversham were un- ited in the Holy Bonds of matrimony. The touching ceremony which was performed by the Rev. Hamilton B. Jackson of Proton Station in the pres- ence of about fifty-five relatives and friends, took place in the bower of the Muskoka Pine= with white stream- ers and a large wedding bell hanging from above and bowles of pink roses at the foot. The sweet bride who was given in marriage by her father, was charm- ingly gowned in white flat crepe with shoei<: and stockings to match, and wearing a sprig of white sweet peas in her dark tresses. She carried a bouqet of white carnatjons, pink and mauve sweet peas and baby's breath. The wedding march "Here Comes the Bride," was sweetly played by Miss Gertrude Irish of Proton. After the ceremony a sumptuous wedding breakfast was served on the lawn, the long tables being dotted with small bowls of pansies and centred with the bride's cake. Mrs. John Lougheed, who has been seriously ill at the home of her mother, Mrs. Wm. Parker, is quite improved. The Osprey U.F.Y.P.O.and friends spent Saturday at Wasaga Beach. An enjoyable time is reported. Miss Annie Priestly, who is under the doctor's care at present is improv- ing. Dr. and Mrs. D. H. Guy and child- ren of New Market spent the week end with relatives here. The regular meeting of the W. I. was held at the home of Mrs. J. L. Morrison. In the absence of the President Miss Mary Ross took charge of the meeting. After the business meeting readings were given by Miss M. Poole and Mrs. Alex Morrison. Misses Alice Long and Shirley Buckt ingham also gave readings, after which an enjoyalble lunch was ser- ved by the hostess. Most farmers around here have commenced haying. It is a very light crop this year. Miss Mildred Scott of Toronto is visiting at Mr. H. R. McLean's. Mr. and Mrs. Allie McLean, Mr. Tom Johnston and Miss Kate Mc- Cannell and Gordon McCannell and Mrs. Donald McDonald and daughter Dorothy of Toronto, Miss Pearl Mc- Cuaig were visitors at Mr. .A. L. Hinck's on Sunday. Mrs. MicLachlan and daughter Jean arrived homq after spending some time with friends in Buffalo. Mr. and Mrs. Dan L. McArthur were recent visitors at Mr. Allie Mc- Lean's. • MicS Doris MeLean of Toronto is spending a couple of weeks with friends in Priceville. Mies Leone McDonald of Owen Sound is visiting friends around this vicinity. Miss Edith and Victoria Jelly of Shelbume spent a few days with their sister Mrs. Ray McLean. On Thursday afternoon there was a large crowd at the picnic on the school grounds and races and games were enjoyed by the young and old and prizes were given to each one who won a race or game. After having a bountiful lunch many re- sorted to the adjoining field and ^watched a soft ball game, between Ceylon and Priceville-. The score was 9-16 in favor of Ceylon. Miss Donalda Nichol spent a few day.?' visiting friends in Shelbume. Mr. Wm. McLeod lost a velirable colt last week. Miss Orma Meuser of Owen Sound is visiting at Mr. Archie McCuaig's. Miss Elizabeth Campbell of Mont- real is visiting at her home for a month. A pleasant time was spent at Mr. and Mrs. Earl McLeod's on Friday night, when friends and neighbors gathered in and presented them with many beautiful and useful gifts. Funeral of Mrs. Nelia Was Held Thursday CEYLON This community was shocked when it was learned on Tuesday, July 17 that Mrs. Janet Anderson Mac.A.uley Melia had passed away, after only a few days illness of pneumonia. .<he was a daughter of Jean Frances and John McaCuley, who lived in Caledon and where she was born in the year 1846 and when a young woman moved with her parents to Priceville and in the year 1870 was married to Mr John Melia. For a number of years they lived in Flesherton from then they moved to Ceylon, 41 years ago. She was loved by everyone. She w^as a good neighbor of a kindly disposition and in religon was a Presbyterian. To them were born six children, Mrs. Will .McNae (Ella) of Cleveland, Ohio; Jno. in Seattle, Wash; Mrs. Frank A. Ll- Irich (Jennie) of Cleveland; Charlf-s of Toronto, William of Minto. Man- Clara, who died in infancy. These she leaves to mourn her loss besides her sorrowing husband, who has al- so been quite ill and three brothers, three sisters, Mr. Walter of .\lgoma; Alex of Cleveland and Dunean of Los Angeles; Mrs. Alex. Findlay, Van- couver, Mrs. Catharine La Vigne of Detroit.
