Another interesting article on -the practical planting of trout fry by John Gall of Toronto, is one of the features of the May issue of the Rod and Gun and Canadian Silver Fox News which is just published. Be- sides this there is the usual full com- plement of fishing and hunting art- icles and stories by popular authors of the magazine and in the leijular departments on angling, guns and am- munition, outdoor talk and kennel. Bonnycastle Dale, well-known out- door writer, contributed an interesting article on where to fish in the Var- itimes this year. The appDach of the fishing season also occasiDns the appearance of much interesting mat- erial in G. P. Sladen's department. The conservation campaign of the magazine is supplemented this month by a worthy article on fish and game conditions in Alberta by C. A. Hay- den of Calgary. The Canadian Sil- ver Fox News section also contains several practical' artVli^s. Rod and Gun and Canadian Silver Fox News is published monthly by W. J. Taylor Limited, Woodstock, Ontario. Upon the mothers of '**" ""<* Markdale, purse containing this country depend the health of the ^^^'^ ^"^"^ ''•**'' "^ "^'^ """ ®' citizens of the next Canadian gener.lâ„¢*'"*^' Findw Ple»M notify The ation. ! Advance. The infant is absolutely depentent upon his mother. Beyond his ab- ility to express pain and hunger by crying, he is a very helpless creat- ure. It is this extreme helpfullness that is, in many ways, so appealing, while, at the same time, it makes great demands upon the mother. Much of the sickness and many of the deaths which occur amongst in- fants are due to the fact that the mothers, instead of breast feedincr their babies, put them on artieifial feedings. There is no artificial feeding that can be compared to the natural food. The baby who is de- prived of the natural food looses something that cannot be replaced, and has not an equal chance to grow strong and well, as compared with his naturally fed brother. Why are babies artificilly fed? A few are so unfortunate as to loose their mothers; a few mothers, on account of illness, are unable to nurse. In the vast majority of cases it is because the mother does not know that she is doing a wrong thing when she weans her baby She may think that she cannot nurse the baby; that the baby is not doing well and so the mother's milk is insufficient or of poor quality; that some arti- ficial feeding is better; that some well- meaning, but ignorant neighbor . is an authority on children, and the neighbor has advised weaning There are very, few women who cannot nurse their babies, but, in many cases, they need instructions in how to do it. In fairness to her- self and the baby, no mother should wean her baby except on the advice of the family physician. Questions concerning health, ad- dressed to the Canadian Medical Asso- ciation, 184 College street, Toronto, will be answered by letter. Questions as to diagnosis and treatment will not be answered.
