The principal item on the program was a debate on the subject, "Resolved thak the Inventor has contributed more fo the Iiappiness of humanity that ttie Legislature." The affirmative was taken by Mrs. F. R. Boland and Mrs. S. Wyville, and the negative by Messrs Chas. McLean and Norman Genoe. Tlie judges were Messrs. Howard Graham, Elmer Warling and Otto Baker. They de- cided in favor of the affirmative by » very narrow margfo. It yna an interesting debate and all the sneak- ers did well. Snell and Mrs. Percy Hunt each eave interesting papers. Miss Maud Hemphill gave a well rendered solo. A tasty lunch was served at the close. â-  The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. A. We know of one man vrtio was forced to abandon his stable, taking out his livestock and placing^ them elsewhere. We also heard of a family who were forced to remain inside because of the water being so high surrounding the house that tliey could not get out, and when visitors eame they could not get in. Misses McDonald and McMullen of Ceylon visited at Mr. James Neilson's. Mrs. Charles Lyons is visiting her daughter in Toronto. Miss Giddens spent Saturday after- noon in Owen Sound. Dever Bros, are shipping a car load of potatoes this week. Mr. Lome Atkinson has bought Mr John Acheson's tot at the south comer of the-village and is taking down the old house preparatory to building a new one. Bom â€" On Sunday.
