Hinclta, wa» chairman. As there were only two speakers the contest was of short duration. The first speaker was Miss Sadie Vause, who chose as her subject ''Agricultural Education,'' and Miss Emma Oliver, who «poke on "Pioneer Farming." Rev. Mr. McCormack of Priceville acted as judge and critic, and commended both speakers on their good meriU and decided that the last speaker, Miss Oliver, had won by a slight margin. A captivating in- strumental was given during the pro- gram by Wm. McKenzie and Miss B. Watters. Mr. Robt. Pston of Flesh- erton, who wa« present, was called upon and spoke briefly of past rem- iniscenses during his O.D.R. school- days. The meeting closed with the National Anthem. Hon. John Oliver, premier of B.C., spent a few days last week with rel- atives on the O.D.R. and South Line The Onward softball team will op- pose Bunessan in the first game of the U.F.Y.P.O. preliminaries this Fri- day evening in Currie's field. Deceased was an unmarried farmer residing on the 11th line of Euphrasia until a year ago, when failing health compelled him to retire from active labor. He was born at Salem, Proton town;3hip, and was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Ferris. Five brothers and four sis- ters survive him. A large funeral took place on Sunday afternoon from the home of his 'sister, Mrs. John Mc- Nulty, Proton Station, to Salem cem- etery. The Euphrasia and the Pro- ton Orange Lodges attended in a body. The service at the house was conducted by Rev. H. B. Jackson and at the Salem church by Rev. Mr. Mc- Cormack. Many friends and relat- ives were preaent from Euphrasia, Meaford, Thornbury, Banks, Toronto and other places. The people of Pro- ton Station extend sympathy to Mrs. McNulty in her bereavement. Mr. Thcj. Wyvill and Mr. John Hodgin are both under the care of Dr. Martin. Miss Maud Acheson of Barrie, ac- companied by her friend, Mrs. L. Thompson and little son.
