Hawton on Friday, Feb. 4tV, 1927. The meeting opened by singing "Keep the Young Club Booming." Miss Spofford was ap- pointed secretary for the evening. A choice program was then g:iven. John New, Clarence Pindlay, Mabel puy and T. Spofford were appointed pro- gram committee for the next meet- ing. A music contest was put on, which was won by Kendall Hawkins and Miss Maynard. The meeting closed by singing the National An- them, after which lunch was served. The next meeting is to be held at the home of Mr. Robert Mclntyre, Sr., on Thursday, Feb. 17th. B<^N â€" On Thursday, February 10, 1927, to Mr. and Mrs. Dave Adams a daughter. Congratulations. Mrs. Wilfred Snyder and babe, who have been visiting her father, Mr. D. D. McLachlan, for a couple of weeks, has returned to her home in Toronto. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Blair and son of Glenelg spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Arrowsmith and family. Mis. Ross Leslie of Toronto visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Mc- Mullen, the past week. Miss Vera Marshall, who has been visiting her sister, in Bala fch: a fortnight, has returned home. Mr. and Mrs. Will Beaton and son attended the funeral of Mrs. Beaton's mother, Mrs. David Harrovr, at Owen Sound on Monday. The sympathy of the community is extended to Mrs. Beaton and members of the Harrow family in the loss of their mother, who was widely known in this district, having resided on their farm. Stone's Line, for many years. Her husband predeceased her four months ago. A family of two sons and five daughters are left, namely: Mrs. W. Beaton, Stone's Line; Misses Ethel and Min- nie of Richmond, Va. Hunter, Essex County; Frank, Hodgeville, Sask., and Misses Agnes and Annie at home, who very tenderly cared for their mother in her illness of the past two years. Those who attended the fun- eral from this part were: Messrs. Geo. Patterson, J. J. Lyness, Chas. Boyce, John McMillan, George Arrowsmith, Thomas Gilchrist, Sirs. George Camp- bell, Mrs. Thos. Irwin, Mrs. Neil Cam- eron. The C.G.I.T. class, which has been newly formed, gave a Valentine so- cial on Monday night. A play entit- led "Ancient Spinsters," was given and well received, causing many a merry laugh. The singing by these maidens was particularly charming in the blending of their voices. We hope to hear these young ladies aprain in the near future. Mr. A. G. Blair gave several selections on the mouth- organ, accompanied by Miss Stewart on the ukulele. The proceeds of the evening amounted to $9.65. At the close a dainty lunch was served of sandwiches and cake. Mrs. W. Wilcock, who has been vis- iting her daughters in the city, re- turned home Thursday. EUGENIA It looks as if we might witness an early spring this year. We have not much anew in this vicinity this win- ter, compared with last. A car pas- sed through the village the other day from Meaford en route to Owen Sound. Miss Stevenson, who has been. with Mrs. Alex. Cameron the past couple of weeks, has returned to her home at Mclntyre. Miss Delmer Fenwick is assisting Mrs. Cameron at present. Mrs. David Genoe of East Mountain has returned home from Collingwood hospital, where she has been taking treatment for the past few weeks. Mr. Harold Lever visited on Sunday at Mr. C. Martin's. Mr. A. F. Pedlar has been laid up with an attack of neuralgia, but is on the way to recovery again. Mr. C. Martin has been suffering from indi- gestion the oast week. The teacher and pupils in our school had quite an exchange of val- entines on Monday. The children ap- preciated their valentines, whether purchased ones or home-made. Mr. Luther Duckett and family of Ceylon visited recently with the for- mer's brother, Mr. J. H. Duckett. We are informed that Mr. Thomas Betts has purchased Mr. Richard Hoy's residence and property on the ColUngrwood gravel. We learn that Mr. Hoy has purchased Mr. Neil Mc- Kecknie's residence in Flesherton and will move thereto. A number from here attended the funeral of the late John Boland at Markdale last week. A few of the farmers in this neigh- borhood took the opportunity of sup- plying themselves with -some cheap stock feed, a mixture of western oats, barley and wheat, at reduced prices. They hauled it from Proton Station, where it was unloaded off cars. We are pleased to report Mr. Bert Magee almost well again, after his recent illness. Mrs. R. Park was confined to her bed a few days last week. KIMBERLEY Mr. Sheldon Myers of Flesherton accompanied by Mrs. Alexander, vis- ited Sunday with his brother, Mr. W. Myers. Miss Leona Weber is visiting heri , „„ FEVERSHAM On Tuesday, February 8th, the grim reaper again visited our neighborhood and called another of our old neigh- bors, Mrs. Phillip Ottewell, at the age aunt, Mrs. Fay Marshall, at Fair- banks, North York. Miss Cora Myers spent a few days last week in Toronto. Messrs. George Cornfield and Rob. Lawrence gave a very successful dance in the hall on Friday evening. About two hundred guests were entertained and all spent a good time. A sleigh load of young people went to Markdale one evening last week to skate. The W. I. held a successful euchre party on Wednesday evening. Miss Isla Graham won the ladies' prize and Mr. Norman Burritt the gents', and also for the largest number of lone hands. The Ladies' Aid are giving an old- years. The funeral took pi see on Thursday from the home of lir son, James, to the Gospel Workc i' church here, the service being condu •- ted by Rev. A. Mills, Markdale, as- sisted by the Rev. J. New of Maxwell. Avery large gathering of friends and neighbors assembled to pay their lart respects to one who was generally be- loved. The floral tributes were lov- ely, showing the high esteem in whieM the deceased was held. The remains were laid to rest in the>^ethel ceme- tery on the tenth line. A great number of people are suff- ering from colds and influenza. Little Helen Love has been very ilt with pneumonia, but is slowly recov* ering. Mrs. H. Stoddart and fam- ily, east back line, visited recently with the former's sister, Mk-s. Herb- Betts. Miss Lottie Badgerow is assisting in household duties at the home of Mrs. Sam Phillips. Leila and Bobbie Clark spent the week end with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Clark, Flesherton. Mrs. Best of Meaford is visiting for a while with her cousin, Mrs. J Tarry Thompson. IJir. Ernest Thompson met 'with a very bad accident by getting his leg broken just below the knee on Friday, while working at Duncan. Drs. McKee and Moore of Thorn- bury set the fractured limb. We hope for a speedy recovery. Mi-s. Charles Fawcett spent a few days with her cousin, Mrs. .Tohn Mc- Naliy, at Union Hill. Mitchell of Markdale conducted the service at the house and cemetery. Deceased was for many years one of our nio-.=it prominent and highly re- ::pected citizens, and will be much mis- sed in this neighborhood. The sor- rowing relatives have the symqathy of the entire community in their bereave- ment. Mr. George Wright had a success- ful sale of stock and implements rec- ently. Ml'. Wright has leased his farm to Mr. Dick Sewell. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Shannon vis- ite<i friends in Mclancthon one day last week. Mrs. J. H. Holley spent a few days with friends in Markdale.
