Mr. Dan McTaviah introduced the deputation and several of the bu.siness men voiced their dis- approval of the way in which the streets are kept and for the clouds of dust that rise from passing auto- ^ mobiles. Mr. G. B. Welton said ; that in dry weather he was unable to raise the windows in the hotel or keep the doors open as the dust pen- etrated everywhere, and requested that something should be done to keep the dust down. Mr. Kickling also stated that the gravel used was not of sufficient density to unite with the hard road bed and it was all to be found in the ditches at pres- ent. Mr. Welton also thought that the approaching roads from the east and west are a disgrace to the town and stated that dragging should 4iave been done earlier in the spring when the ruts in the road could be (filled easier. Mr. Inkster, chairman of the road committee stated here that a team could not be secured to do the work at an earlier date. Mr. Findlay stated that in the past the present tank had been tried out and was found unsatisfactory on ac- count of not having enough pressure behind the tank to spread the water satisfactorily. He had secured a new elbow and pipe which would be connected to the tank at once and tried out, the new length of pipe giv- ing an extra drop of two feet. He gave figures and stated that the cost of oiling the streets would be prohi- bitive. He also said that a new pre- paration on the market, was being used extensively now and that it was giving good service. It is a flaky substance when spread on the road but in an hour or so the sun would melt it sufficiently that it iwould bind with the road and keep the dust down. Two applications would be needed during the summer; the last one only light. The Reeve assured the deputation that everything would be done to meet the wishes of the people and iif the tank did not prove satisfactory other means would be used. Mr. W. W. Trimble, as the repre- sentative of the citizens north of the The Late Mrs. Blakely PriceviUe on Friday, Jane 25th.
