MUST HAVE MARRIAGE LICENSE THREE DAYS Municipal Clerks issuing marriage licenses have been forwarded a copy of amendments to the Marriage Act which should be of particular interest to ministers and others vested with the right to solemnize a mar- riage. One clause in the amend ment which comes, into force on June 13th, requires . that every license shall be dated and every person who solemnizes marriage under, authority of such license within 3 clear days of the date thereon shall be guilty of an offense and shall incur a penalty of not more than $100, provided however that the Provincial Secre- tary in his absolute discretion may authorize the solemnization of mar- riage within such three days, in which case there shall be no penalty. Another clause which bears on the poor groom requires that the bride's age must be given before license will be issued, such to be secured from the Registrar, or by affidavit from the bride's pai-ents. These amendmenfl-, to the Marriage Act have been made to put a check on hasty marriages j Procuring a marriage license and appearing before a minister before the ink is dry is to be done away with forever. As it is to be, young couples will be given three days of grtce after procuring a document to think it over before taking the plunge. THE SMILING MAN It doesn't take much to cheer one along; A kind word, mingled with smile, A Arm hand clasp, a tender song, And life seems truly worth while. We all have troubles we call our own; A cross we surely must bear. And a smile is better than whine or groan. To help with the wear and tear. The -world takes note of the smiling man. As he walks in (he early way; Filling each hour of his earthly span. With a"hBil"and a glad "good day." Woes cannot drown his loving call; He sings in the mist and rain. And makes us happy in spite of .ill. As he smiles in the face of pain.
