^J'0^* â- *5 T ^hje fk^\^ttim mxitt^ Vel.45 No. 30 Flesherton, Ontario, December 31, 1924 W.H. Thurston & Son, Proprietors PROTON STATION Happy New Year to all. Miss Ila Batchelor, who suffered such a distressing accident while taming a cream separator about two months ago, her hair being caught in the shaft and severing from her head a large portion of the scalp, returned from Owen Sound hospital on Christ- mas eve and, notwithstanding her trying experience is feeling well and is her usual cheerful self. The piece of scalp which was torn completely off and sewn on decayed and had to be destroyed. The hospital doctors loosened the remaining scalp, stretch- ed it as much as they considered ex- pedient, then, cutting some small pieces from the side of the head, they grafted them in the aperture and it is closing up and the hair is growing. They ren- dered their parts as if they had al- ways been on the stage and the cast of characters couldn't have been better if the play had been written directly for our young people. The play had one of the best morals, which was brought out in a very humorous manner by the players. .All who were present*' enjoyed a real hearty laugh. CARD OF THANKS I desire, through The Advance, to | thank relatives, friends and neighbors : for a^sitance given and kind sympa- ! thy offered during the illness and death of my beloved husband. â€"Mr?. E. Russell. (Intended for Last Week) The school concert on Friday night last was a great success and was a reversal of the old time school concert here. The teachers. Miss Baird and Mr. Norris, deserve great praise for the pains they took in training their pupils. The little boys and girls of the school showed great patience for the teachers in training them for the place where they would face the large audience and go through their part witho It a hitch. The candle drill by ten boys and girls, the Indian drill by twelve boys and girls, one chief with his squaw, Tagoo Nokoniis. and Hiawatha and eight braves and the Bazoo Band, was exceptionally fine. The play From Pumpkin Ridge was enjoyed by all and the artists surely must have had some experience in old time love affairs. Though Miss Elizabeth Brown had a bad disap- pointment in her love affair, yet tho' her nobleman lover having turned out bad and was arreste<i in her pres- ence, yot she did not tell us her age and as there were a number of nice young men in the audience her chance may be good yet. Jonathan Sehrug- gins tried his luck with her and we believe was making good headway when Polinda Jane Hopkins (his best girl from Pumpkin Ridge) appeared on the scene and spoiled his chance for Elizabeth's money. .A stormy scene it proved to be as both Eliza- beth and Belinda Jane proved their ability to scrap with each other and Jonathan found a few minutes of rough hou.'Je. Then Harry Clifton and his dearly beloved Miss .Annie Brown had their turn, but Harry was able to hold his own with .Annio and smoothe out Squire Brown's ruffled plumage re Harry's having a di.scol- cred optic from his affray with No- bleman .Augustus Simmons the night before in Simmon's attempt to rob him. and of course they got Mrs. Eliz- abeth's money, married and lived hap- pily ever after.
