Ottewell of town brought into The Advance office the other day an apple tree branch that had an abundance of fruit growing thereon. Th« branch \va.s SUb inches in length and had -U) fairly large apples on the stem in a circumference of sixteen inches. The branch was picked on the Doctor's farm north of town from a natural fruit apple tree. Miss McPhaii to Open Fair 1 ! I', for South Grey will open the Fair at 1.30 p.m. Bring your.self and friends and enjoy the afternoon at the fair. '.Official Announcement Of Coming Plebiscite Th3 official announcement with re- gard to the coming vote on the O.T.A. was given out on Friday evening last and is as follows: "The first consideration of a Gov- ernment in its legislation and the administration thereof must always be the moral and material progfesB and we are of the people it serves. The greatest farce in the securing of law observance and the suppres- sion of crime and elimination of di.stress is public opinion. The pur- pose of the plebiscite is to secure from the people such an expression of opinion os will enable the govern- ment to adopt such measures as will have behind them the fulI^Mt pos sible public approval and support. "The Ontario Temperance Act as amended and strengthened from time to time during the past eight years is trow the governing principle in the handling of our liquor prob- lem. It is obvious, therefore, that the first enquiry must be directed to ascej-taining if the people desire to continue the principle of this law. One of the questions will therefore be: 'Are you in favor of the con- tinuance of tlie Ontario Temperance Act?' If the majority answer in the atfirmative there can be no doubt as to the cour.se to be followed. "If on the other hand the majority answer in the negative, it means, that .some new method of controlling the sale as a beverage of beer and spirituou.s liquor must be adopted. The (Jovernnient therefore seeks a further expression of opinion by asking a second question: "Are you in favor of the sale as a beverage of beer and spirituous liquor in sealed packages under Government control?' "Government control' in the view of the Government does not mean a system of sale such as in operation in Quebec and British Columbia. It means that the Government will make all sales and that the people pressed by their vote at the polls of purchasing beer and liquor under strict regulations." HORSES KICK PROVED FATAL Lloyd, the two-year-old son of Mr. Fred Clayton of East Garafraxa, died in Fcrgu^! hospital on Tuesday even- ing, from a kick by a horse on the head the previous Sunday afternoon. It seems that the little chap was in the lane for just a moment when a couple of horses came along. They I'ossibly took fright at the child and kicked out. The little chap's head was badly injure<l and from the first hut faint hopes were held out for his ercovery. Netvlleas to say the young parents are grief-stricken over the tragedy and have the heart-felt sym- pathy of a wide circle of acquaint- ances in their sorrow. â€" Ex.
