E deCUDMORE FOUR TELEPHONES Wondering Why * Men send their autos raaring along the midnight street, disturbing people snoring, destroying slumbers sweet; with cutouts madly coughing, and pis- ton whanging loud, we hear them in the offing, the foolish, fathead crowd. There is no sense, beshrew it, in rack- eting along;! wonder why they do it, when they must know it it's wrong. Speed fiends in all the papers read tales of death and wrecks; because of speed fiend capers, men carry broken necks; and to the boneyard daily, men in hearses go .because the speed fiends gaily refuse to travel slow. Cops run thera down and pinch them, the while some victim groans, and Justice, which should clinch them, just fines them seven bones. Such leniency's a blunder- they pay with- out a tear, then scorch again like thunder, and kijl an auctioneer. 'Tis wicked to pursue it, this vicious course and vain; I wonder why they do it â€" why not be safe and sane? I drive my fiej-y auto, a thing of brutal power, by fen and weir and grotto, at fifteen miles an hour. And though for years I've driven my bus along the puve, I've sent my guy un- shriven, to fill an early grave. I've caused no sore contusion, with fender or with hood â€" but, hap'ly, in conclu- ion,rd better knock on wood â€" Walt Mason. Bitten By A Mink Blood Poisoning Results T. Picture Show Town Hall Thurs., July 30 SPECIAL ATTRACTION FOU THE SUMMER "The Leather Pushers" Round one starts this week. T here is a series of six pictures or episode.s, so don't miss the first one or you'll be sorry. GLORIA SWANSON "Bluebeard's 8th Wife" Mr. Thos. Lockhart had a remark- able experience one: day last week, and one which may yet cost him his life. While flishing with chub a mink appeared on the scene and decided that it would like to have that piece of chub, not known that the chub was loaded wih a sharp hook. Tak- ing hold of the fish he attempted to Ket away with it. but the wiles of man prevented. With a twitch of the line the hook penetrated Mr. Mink's upper Up and he was a cap- tive. While uttcmptinK to take the hook from the animal's mouth it bit Mr. Lockhart on one finger. Nothing wa.s thought of the small wound for a couple of days, when it began to pain and the hand and arm swelled. A doctor was called, who pronounced it a bad case of blood poi.soniug. On Sunday two doctors and a nurse were in attendance, and no per.son was all- owed to see the patient. Mr. Lockhart's an inveterate fisher- man and hunter, and can relate inter- esting adventures and incidents by the hour, but should he recover (an<k we sincerely hope this may be) he will have nothing more thrilling than his encounter with this mink. His ex- tensive knowledge of the fauna of thi.s continent has been materially added to, and we fervently trust the result will have a happy ending. Fishing At Eugenia Ladies Lost Their Steel Fishing Poles One day last week a couple of ladies who were out east fish- inpr drove around by the 8th line bridge over the hydrcT- pond, and thought they would try at the bridge for^ trout. In a few minutes an overseer swooped down on them and took their poles away from them â€" good steel poles. Although numer- ous people have fished there, these are the only poles that we have heard of as being confiscated. 'That was a brave ovei-seer. The husBaj^ds of these ladies are laying low for a short time to see what is going to be done about it. The officious official should return the poles and apologize. Feb. 15 Bull For Seirvice Prominent Euphrasia Couple Are Divorced Peter -Alexander Fawcett, a prom- inent young farmer of Euphrasia township, petitioning for divorce from his wife Eva Bertha Faw^cett (nee Hutchinson) on the usual grounds, appeared together with his counsel, Mr. A. J. F. Sullivan of Stayner, before the Divorce Commit- tee of the Senate at Ottawa, on June 24th li-.st. The couple were maiTied at Flesherton, on Oct. 14th, 1908, and resided thereafter in Euphrasia; and the chief matrimonial offence was al- leged to have occurred on or about Oct. 1921. The wife was also pres- ent, and with the assistance of coun- .sel strenuously opposed the petition. Considerable evidence was heard on both sides. On conclusion the Divor- ce Committee, after due deliberation, decided the divorce should be gran- ted? and reported accordingly. 'The usual Bill has since gone through both Houses of Parliament; and on Saturday last, the 19th instant, received the Royal Assent. This be coming law. The marriage is thus dissolved, and the petitioner is at liberty to marry again.
