Thurston & Son, Proprietors PRICEVILLE The last few days have been so pleasant that we are beginning to for- get the cold days of the early part of last week. Haying will be on in full blast this week, and promises to be a fair crop in this vicinity. The Presbyterian S.S. held their picnic on the school -^ounds on Thursday of last week. The morn- ing was decidedly discouraging from the boys and girls viewpoint, as it was cold and wet, but noon time brought a change as the sun came out and the childrens' spirits rose with the thermometer. A good crowd of children and adults gathered and spent a very enjoyable after- noon, with foot races, novelty races etc., for the children for which prizes were given, soft ball and foot ball for the grownups. A football match was played in the evening between the County Road team and a pick-up team from the village. The score being 1-1. ongratulatons to Miss Donalda Nichol and Mr. Allie Mclnnis on having successfully passed the Nor- mal school exams, also those who passed the entrance exFvns. Mrs. Martin McLeod and children, of Tilbury, are visiting at A. D. Mc- Leod's this week. Miss Mildred Scott of Toronto is visiting her cousin, Mrs. E. E. Watson, and other relatives around here. Mrs.' Clark and children are visit- ing her cousin, Mrs. J. S. McDermid. Miss Willa McKenzie of Meaford is the guest of her friend, Miss Mary Curran, at the parsonage. Mr. Ray McLean and Mr. Ed. Hogg motored to Toronto on Sunday. Dr. O. E. Carr arrived home on Wednesday with his bride. We ex- tend a hearty welcome to Ms. Carr. Mr. and Mrs. Al. McDonald of Weston, Mr. and Mrs. F. Caims of Flesherton, vsited Mrs. K. McDonald on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Alex. McEachern and family are visitinp' at his fathers, Mr. R. McEachern. Miss Dorothy Carson and Miss Mary McKinnon are holidaying at their homes here. Mrs. E. Taylor of Meadowvale, and Mr. Mckenzie of Torontb, are visiting at the former's brothers, J. and, G. Whyte, 0. D. R. The South Line West, Artemesia, is now connected up by telephones, which they will -find a great con- venience. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Drummie of Yeovil, spent Sunday at Mrs. D's. old home, Mrs. W. Watson's. Miss Florence Carson has taken a position at Holland Centre. Mr. H. R. McLean returned home from a trip to Denver Colorado, on Saturday. Master Jack Dodds of Caledon is visiting his cousin, Mrs. R. J. Sim. BORNâ€" To Mr. and Mrs. John Nichol Sr., on Thursday, July 17th, a son. Congatulations. Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Graham and son, also Mr. and Mrs. Will Burnett of Markdale spent a day with Mr. and Mrs. J. L Graham and family. The Women's Institute will hold their July meeting at the home of Mrs. J. J. McGee, when Miss Agnes McPhail, M.P., wU be present and give an address. All the members will bring lunch. Mr. and Mrs. Will Alcox of Orange Valley spent a day with Mr. and Mrs. S. Gilbert and other friends. Master Elmer Warling of Wiarton is visiting his aunt, Mrs. Geo. War- ling. An excellent sermon was given in the church here on Sunday afternoon by a "representative of the Ontario Temperance Union. Miss Peters was very successful in her school work during the past year, having thirteen pupils trying exam- inations a;id every one was susccess- ful, two of these trying the entrance. Misses Annie Hislop and Miss Dora Boland are receiving congratulations for their success. Mr. and Mrs. Will Burrell spent a day with Mr. and Mrs. R. Genoe. Quite a number from here attended the garden party at Insitioge on Fri- day evening of last week, where a basball game was played between Dundalk and Vandeleur, re8ultin<r in a score of 7-3 in favor of the latter. PORTLAW ROCK MILLS The Flesherton, Ceylon and Rock Mills Baptist Sunday schools will hold their annual picnic this Thursday at the park, Eugenia. The U.F.W.O. club will hold their monthly meeting at the home of Mrs. A. Cameron on Wednesday, August 6th. Mrs. Gorham and son. Bud, of To- onto are visiting with her mother, Mrs. Tucker, at the home of Levi Betts. Miss Alice Mclntyre visited over the week end with Miss Edith Betts. Mrs. Lome Atkinson and babe have returned home from Owen Sound. We o.fer congratulations to Mabel Betts and Kenneth Betts who were successful in passing their entrance examinations. Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Smith, acccomp- anied by Mrs. A. Kennedy and son, Ed., of London visited with relatives at Singhampton. Mr. Robt. Phillips of Toronto mot- ored over Sunday with his wife, who has been holidaying with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. Hoy. Mr. and Mrs. Les. Brooks and fam- ily of Toronto visited with Mrs. .\. Partridge, returning home Tuesday. Their son, Eddie, remained to spend part of the holidays with rela|iives here._ Miss Nellie Robertson returned to Toronto Saturday after spending a pleasant two weeks' holiday with her parents. Quite a number of our citizens celebrated the "Glorious Twelfth" at Owen Sound, others spent the day at MaxweU, Mrs. Albert Thompson and daugh- ter, Mrs. Fisher, are visiting with relatives in Toronto. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Haney and three sons, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Haney and Mr. Robert Haney of Toronto, are spending their summer holidays with relatives on the Centre Line, and enjoying the fellowship of old friends. Mr. Murray Cornfield is up from Toronto holidaying with the home folks. Mr. W. J. Reid has been seriously ill the past week. Dr. Guy is in at- tendance, and we are glad to hear that some improvement is reported. Mr. and Mrs. Chas Hopps and daughter, and Mrs. Reid and daugh- ter ol Collingwood, visited at the home of the former's nephew, Mrs. James Hopps. Mr. James McLennan o? Toronto was up celebrating the "Twelfth" with his brother and sisters here Mrs. Morrow of Dundalk visited with her sister, Mrs. Wm. Taylor. A bee of willing workers was held for two days at Mount Zion church last week, and a good deal of necessary repairing was done to the building. LeVerne and Milford Piper, are spending their holidays with their cousin, Jackie Torrey, at Lauriston. Mr. R. and Miss G. Irish of Ware- ham were visitors at Mr. S. Hemp- hill's the past week. Mr. and Mrs. Harrison and two children and Miss Mildred Bennett of Shelburne motored up and are visit- ing Miss M. Ferguson. Mrs. Grant Whittaker and three childr^ of West Toronto spent the past week with Mr. A. Whittaker. Miss Mary Sealey of Detroit and Miss Cora Richards of Proton visited with Mrs. Haw this week. Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Radley and child- ren of Toronto visited the latter's sister, Mrs. Bolton, a couple of days. Mr. Jas. McWhinney spent a couple of days at Hanover the past week. Mr. and Mrs. Campbell and child- ren of Eugenia visited Miss J. Mc- Kenzie on Friday. Mrs. Hyslop and little granddaughter, who have spent the past fortnight here, returned home with them. Mr. R. Walker of Toronto spent a dsy with Mr. Allie Muir. Mr. G. E. Banks attended the Mas- onic convention in Toronto last week as a delegate. Mrs. Archer and little daughter and Miss Doris Shiers of Toronto visited Mrs. W. White and family here. Miss Helen Gibson and friend of Toronto are visiting the former's par- ents here. The picnic, which was to have been held last Thursday, but was post- poned on account of the funeral of Mr. Chas, Hales, will be held this Thursday to Eugenia. Everyone is invited to come and have a good time. A rig will leave at 2 p.m. for those who wish to go. Mrs. McWilliams and little son have returned from a two weeks' visit with her sister in Proton. Master Earl White is visiting in Owen Sound. Miss T. Mansell, who has been holi- daying here, returned Saturday to her home in Toronto. Mrs. Norris of Drummer, Sask., is visiting her sister, Mrs. A. Sinclair. Mr. Wes. Berry and Mr. Turner are relieving Mr. A. Sinclair and Percy Hemphill, who are on holidays. Mrs. Ulrich of Chicago is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Melia. FEVERSHAM Haying i.s the order of the day with the farmers in this locality and some great crops are being harvested es- pecially of alfalfa and sweet clover. Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Henderson of Meaford, Mrs. Jas. Downing and two cliil<iren, Mrs. Franklin and three children of Owen Sound and Miss Lillian Wise of Toronto were the guests of Mrs. R. H. Henderson last week. Miss Wolf of Toronto visited with Miss Alister and Mrs. Kemahan last week. Miss Lulu JoUey of Meaford is vis- iting with Mrs. J. A. Kemahan at present. Miss Edith Fadden of Toronto is holidaying at her parental home on the eighth line. Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Colquette and two children and Miss Lily Dougherty motored over from Guelph and spent Sunday with the former's parents in this village. Mr. and ^rs. Frank Curran and babe of Riverview spent Sunday with Mrs. Henderson. Miss Pedlar spent Sunday \vith Miss Millie Coulthard. Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Osborne have returned to their home in To- ronto after a two weeks' holiday with friends in this locality. A large congregation assembled at the Presbyterian church here last Sunday at the community service. The resident ministers took part. Rev. Mr. Shannon preached an im- pressive sermon. Death has again visited our neighborhood, this time the call com- ing to the late John Izard Sr., at the ripe age of seventy-six -ears We believe that he was ready for that call being a conscientous Christian for a great number of years and a soldier in the Feversham corps of the Salvation Army. He has been a great sufferer from asthma and bron- chitis for a long time. He passed away on Tuesday, July 15th and was laid to rest in the Maxwell Methodist cemetery on Thursday, July 17th. \ large concourse of friends and neigh- bors eathered tn pay their last re- spects. Capt. Jolley of Collingwood and the Rev. A. Mills oflFiciated at the church service and the grave Mrs. I Izard predeceased him a few years ago. The other regular departments and several in- teresting stores complete the various features of this issue. Rod and Gun in Canada is publish- ed monthly by W. J. Taylor, Ltd., Woodstock, Ont. The home of Mr. and Mrs. T. Hughes, Irish Lake, was saddened on Friday last by the death of their 16 months old daughter. Interment took place to St. Johns cemetery on Sunday, July 20th, Rev. Father Mc- Geoy officiating. Much sympathy is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Hughes in their sorrow. Miss Reta Patterson, nurse, of To- ronto is holidaying at her home here. Mr. and Mrs. H. Wilson and little daughter and Miss Mabel Beaton of Hamilton motored up to Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Beaton's for the week end. Mr. and Mrs. G. Johnson and son, Mervyn, of Rock Mills spent Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. Patterson. Mr. Ira and Lloyd Morwood and cousin, Gladys Patterson, of Mark- dale spent Sunday at the latter's home here. Mr. T. Gilchrist of Geylon motored over and spent Sunday with friends here.
