Fleslu-rtmi Hranch: C. E. Stevenson, Manager BANK OF MONTREAL Established over 1OO years Forever singing as they shine The hand that made us is Divine." A wonderful opportunity of getting near to nature's heart and studying the wonderful majesty and power of our Creator. Fourth, Then we girls study dom- estic science, in which wo are all so much interest. You know we Townhsip. "The benefits of Rural School Fairs." To my mind the benefits are many, especially to the pupils of the various schools that take part, First, j it furnishes a practical means of edu- j cation, or rather, shall I say, a means of practical education to the pupils in creating in them a desire to acquire knowledge in the various branches of agriculture and horticulture. You know we boys and girls are always eager and delighted to receive prizes. For that means pay or money, and by getting ready our pro- duct, whcih we have to grow, we require to study the method and means for the growth of our grains, roots and seeds vvhjch is of vital im- portance to the Canadian farmer. We study the soil, the method of planting, cultivating, fertilizing for our grain and roots. Then, too, our gardens need attcn- ! tion, BO we study horticulture. We should have a school garden, but if not, a home garden will suffice. We need to beautify our lawns with flowers, then our aesthetic tastes are cultivated. Our domestic animals are taken care of. or should be. We study our stock the colts, the lambs, the calves the chickens all receive a share of our attention, or if they do not well, I am soo:-y for that punil who does not give some attention to same. Second, we profit by organization. We have a president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer and various committees, all of which is an educa- tion leading to the "arliamentary system of government. Surely some ore of U* may be Premier, M.I*, or M. P.P., and we want to prepare our- selves for suc;h events. Third, we have the beautiful study of nature the bees, the birds, the insects, the woods, the weeds. "In reason's ear they all rejoice And utter forth n glorious voice, girls mean to be good cooks and we arc learning now. If you do not think so, just try ^some of our cakes and pies. Fifth, the boys, as well as the girl r are busy with their manual training. They are making model hay racks, gate?. stopladders and many other conveniences. Why, I do believe some of them will build houses some day. Will not that be fine? Now, not only do we educate our- selves in these ways, but we help the community. We are an uplift to th? community in which wo Hve. They are bettered because we tried to make them so. Then that leades us into our country. Our country is made un of com- munities. Our communities are made up of individuals and those individuals were once boys and girls. This shows our importance our need be. trained properly not only in "rcadin", Vitin', and Vithmetic", sung to the tune of the Hickory Stick, but in the principles of true manhood and womanhood, because we boys arc the future of Canada, hence the future of our country depends on us. The rural element needs proper training ;. < well as the urban centres, let us do our best to make the schoal fair of Osprcy one grand fuccess.
