Baptist Going back to a former pastoral charge, after an absence of several years, is often an unpleasant experi- ence. Families have removed to other cit'es; familiar faces are gone ; the staunch supporters of other days have ' died and new workers are bearing the brunt of the conflict. \ 1 went home last summer to the ; farm of my boyhood days. I shall ( always regret the trip ; the place had | changed so much. The barn had been , re-built : most of the sugar bush had | been cut ; even the big cherry tree, ' from beneath the roots of which ! : used to Jig the grounb-hog, had been cut so long that the stump had rotted away. Farms were owned by strang- ers ; I was a stranger at home! So I went back to Flesherton a I Sunday ago, to preach anniversary sermons, with strangely conflicting feelings. 1 had concluded an unusu- ally happy postorate there in 1909:' once a year or two later 1 had been back for a Sunday. The years be- ' twcen, the world over, have been filled with changes, but the Flesherton- Rock Mill congregations have been left almost unchanged. Fram Flesher- ton the mother of Baptist endeavor on that circuit few Baptist families have disappeared . The leadersof fifteen years ago are those of th: present day. Some of the younger members are in Toronto the Mecca of the country ' but the work is continuing with the " old guard '' in charge. At Rockvale two families have moved to Toronto, but the district as a whole ' remains as it was in 1909. Then it was crowded with youug people ; the church ' was packed to the doors every Sunday evening. Now those people are the farmers of the community, Father and mother have moved to the town to spend their final days : the younger generation has taken their place/ So the names in the locality arc as of yore, but faces are different at the farm house doom. Baptist work on this field is hopeful. At Ceylon there is a community hall in which services arc held each Sunday. At Flesherton the work is old. The church is not large, but it is comfort- able and a parsonage at the rear has recently been renovated at a cost of $13.")0. Rockvale is fifteen years old. : The church building is good and it stands in the centre of a block nurby ten miles square in which there ure few churches. The district likes the Baptist faith andlwclcomes its preacher*. It looks forward eagerly to the time when it will be sc: j -. I am glad I went to Klesherton. It was a treat to sec okl faces again and to find a place of suah happy memories rejoicing still in Christian progress and. fellowship.
