It takes two cars to transport the big organizntion. In the story proper 18,000 people and 3000 horses are seen. The story telii in thrilling detail the relationship that the rise and fall of slavery in thiscountiy bore to the making of .\niericau history. It is the greatest achievement upon the American stage. The postmasters of the Dominion purpose making a dead sab on the au- thorities at Ottawa for a recognition of their riKht to an advance in salary to keep pace with the price of sugar and other things, including advances to the civil servants aud members themselves. The latter held two sessions last yoar, aud pocketed double pay. The post- masters and couriers of Canada are the poorest paid of any branch of the public service, but they are evidiiitly consid- ered to ba the " little fellows " whom the " big fellows " can lick into .|uioscen?e aud proceed to load thorn up with extra work at the old pay, regardless of the changed condition!. Mr. Arthur Johnston of the Maaford Road, a well known resident of Artemesia for many years, died on Monday morning at the age of 73 years. While Mr. John- â- toD was unwell for some time bis immediate death was unlooked for. He was in town a couple of weeks ago and was only seriously ill for a fow days. Tha funeial took place to Maaford Eoad cemetery yesterday (Wednesday). The parsonage at the Baptist churoh caught tire one afternoon last weak In absence of the family. When diaeuvered the tire had made great headway, but a crowd of workers waa soon on the ground and fought the lire to a fioiah with pails and water. In about half an hour the fire waa 'completely under control, but not until tha inside of the building was pretty well gutted and much damsga done to buildinp and furniture. Tha firu evidently started from a store in tha kitchen and quickly spread upstairs, and when the tire fighters began work the root was ablaze in several places. It looked like a miracle that the fire was subdued with an ordinary pail brigade before the building was totally destroyed. There was an insur- ance of $600 on the building, and the company allowed the full amount, also 4200 for damaae to the churoh by fire, smoke and watsr, which is aoosideaed liberal for the insurance company, aud which liberality the officials fully appre- ciate. There was no in-iiirance on the household furnitKre and subscription lists have gone around and have been liberally resDouded to. -Sorviee was held as usual in the church on Sunday. Rev. Upham desires us to thank those who worked so heroically.
