There are certain young othcers in this county who are not making a success in the recruiting campaign, because they do not propose to go to the war themselves yet have the temerity _to ask others to go. Mr. McVic-ir of the Presbyterian church occupied the pulpit of the Metho- dist church twice on Sunday, services in hia church having been withdrawn. Rev. Mr. Dudgeon preached anniversary ser- mons at Protou Station. Mr. McVicar made a strong appeal at the eveuiiiu ser- vice for donations to the Red Cross. This was the first time the mother country had ever appealed to Canad:> in a like manner, showing the necessity.
