McTarisk's black- smith shop was noticed to be on fire. The alarm was quickly given and many tiling hands soon had the fire extin- guished, but a few minutes more would have made the task very difficult as the buildings are frame and very dry. Little damage was done. We failed to see or hear anything of the fire engine. An At-Home was held at the home of Mr. Thos. Leven of the Toronto Line on Friday of last week in honour of Miss Elva who bid adieu to her many friends before leaving for Hanover where she will attend the Model School. Her many friends and acquaintances in Flesherton and the surrounding community hope that she will have the success in her Model work that she had in her previous school work and crust that she will be guided and blessed in it by her Heavenly Father. On Thursday. August 7th Mr. J. C Crane of Owen Sound, brother-in-law of Mr. W. W. Trimble of this place, met with a serious accident. That forenoon he had occasion to go into the vault in connection with his office. It being dark he struck a match and immediately there was a tremendous explosion which shook the whole building and hurled Mr. Crane back, his head and shoulders enveloped in flaming gas which it is thought had been ecaping all night in the closed vault. He called for help and Mr. C. S. Cameron whose office is in the same building rushed to his aid and tore his burning clothing from him. He was hurried to the hospital with head, chest and arms burned raw. Mr. Cameron ex- tinguished the fire in the vault. We are glad to say that according to latest re- aLrcul 01. bUCU <."l.u<m*J l UUG IU lltO ' . . .. o- it ..-ir- .. oorts Mr. Crane is improving, though | Simcoe lakes. The Beaver Valley boys were kept hustling, as they bada pretty strong bunch to play against Dundalk had the game their own way in the first five innings, but finally Kimberley got busy in the last four innings and won the day. It was a nice clean game throughout, with the ex- ception of a little scrap on first base, which did not mar the game to any ex- tentsuch "things" will occur in any game.
