I mouths' ill- ness at the early age of 4* years. Mr. Strain was born and spent his boyhood days here, and was well known by many Fleslieitnn citizens. He h*d not entirety severed his friendship ties with friends here, and occasionally made visits to his boyhood home. The Great Falls Tribune ^ives a very extensive account of Mr. Strain'* won.- derful Im-iiii'ss success in the west, where he was very highly esteemed, and also ii- <ls editoiial'y with the le>sous to be taught by bis exemplary life. The Tri. liuiie says : " The driih of Herbert Strain ;it his home in this ci'y last evenii.g removes from the business and social life of Gieat Falls one of her most sterling citizen?, from the world of men a man who loved hU fellow muu, whose lines were builded upon a foundation of humanity, chariiy and understanding. " Himself a man who worked his way every step up the stairway of life to the place men call succesw, he had that un- derstanding of men which comes from knowledge of their trials at tirst hand, it-id kindly commmdation and timely aid came from him unostentatiously and in manner most effective to those served. In bimtheic was no cant or hypocrisy, no deceit or double dealing ; his opinions all men knew, and he maintained them openly, honestly, and with that, sturdy 21 ' which conies of earnest belief. 'With the most pronounc--d tiowa Against the liquor ti-attic and its follow- ing, it is yet fact that thoae ci^aged in the business held respect and admiration "for him through it all, for though he never temporized, yet he always fought fair, and always iih the weakness and frailties of humanity in mind and in it there never entered suspicion of hypoc- i i-v - iicvi-i whisper of dogmatic cunt. In all matters of public policy he held decided views, but they wereviaws form- ed through honesty and not expediency. The world is betUr for such mn having lived. The example he has left is one ti> be cherished by friend ' tnd family alike, and remembered M a beacon get alouu the great highway we me travelling when durkneKS fills.
