Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Wickens, who have spent the past yt<w in southern C'alifornia.retarued to their home here on Saturday. Mr. Wickens wys they had a most delightful visit, and they liked California. Mr. R. Oenoe of Eugenia writes The Ad vancfl that on Thursday night, April 3, a certian party boiled six or seven dollars worth i'f uiaple syrup in his sugar bush. Next morning he tracked the party to his own gate. Mr. Genoe says he will prosecute if his noct urnal visitor does no call and settle immediately. The village council meet last week but there was not much business to be done beyond making provision for raising money to meet current expenses and the payment of three small accounts. Trie Reeve was also authorized to pay over the money due the township of Artetneaia by the village. The pastur will preiich morning and evening next Sabbath in the Methodist church: 11 a. m., the 9th study in the book of Revelation "The Lamb on the Mount Xi"ii and the Harvest, and the Vintage of the world," Rev. 14. 7 p ra. This is under the auspices of the W. I. Mem- bers and non-members heartily welcome at 2.30p.m. sharp. Admission lOc. ** Little Misa Evada Wilson brought The Advance an sgg one day last week, laid by one of her prize pullets, that discounts anything we have seen in the egg line. It ia raultum in parvo with a vengeance and would lead one 10 believe that biddy was somewhat crowded for space. Take one medium sized egg and another two- thirds the size. Crush the egga together end to end until one-third of the smaller is submerged in the latter, without breaking either shell. Mid you have a replica of this stmple. The shells are normal but both grow together as one. A liquor trial held in ths town hall before J. P's MeMullen and McOill on \Vedueflday of last week attracted cony tiuerable attention. The defendant was James Ridley of Ceylon and the com- plainant was Inspector Halbert. Some five 01 six witnesses were examined but noue of thom could recollect having got any thing stronger than cherry wine on the dt mentioned in the information. Mr. Uadloy swore that he had not sold any tatoxioating liquor on these dates ur for thirty days previous. As them was absolutely no evidence against the accused the case was dismissed. We print an item e'sewhere fiom the DIM ii mi Chronicle regarding a bunch of i hogs which sold on the Durham market last week and brought $200, the price I paid being (9.50 per hundredweight. On I the same date no hogs sold on the Flesh- erton market at les.s than $9.70 and some prime stock brought as high as $9.90. j That 20 cents extra should have paid the 1 Durham farmer to bring his hogs over ! here to market. At tLe lowest price paid here he would have received 81.20 ' mure for his load here, and if they had ' brought ti>p figure his pocketboou would have been added to to the extent of 98.40, approximately. Moral Sell your pigs on the Flesherton market if you live within fifteen or twenty miles of us. The high prices prevailing now do not represent the top notch that has been paid on this market, as some may rhink. Four years ago as high as ten dollars was paid here. The Orillia Times, reporting the meer in* of Ernie Presbytery at which the call from Fleshertun to Rev. A. Mc- Vicar. wai dealt with, said : " Repre- sentatives were present from both Mr. McVicar 's present charges, and expressed deep regret at i he possibility of losing so able a minister. They bora high testi- mony to the excellent service he had rendered during the years of his miniitery there. The Presbytery dealt with the call and presented it to Rev. Mr. Mc- Vicar, who, while regretting the sever- ance of the tie that bound him and hia peop'e so closely together, felt that; in the interests of the education of his family, it was his duty to accept. The Presbytery agreed .to the transla- tion, aud Mr. McVicar will preach his last sermon as pastor of the Oro churches, on April 13. Rev. Mr. Me Vicar has been a useful member of Presbytery a well as -i faithful pastor, and members of Presbytery keenly regret his leaving." Mr. M; Vicar and family will arrive here next week and his induction into this charge will take place in Cbalmer's church at 1 o'clock on Thursday after- noon, April 17th. The minse ii being renovated by the Ladies' Aid and a new furnace is being put in for the comfort of che new minister and his family. Odds and Ends ARTICLES FOR SALE Shingles Cr load of B. C. J. i Taylor Limited, Woodstock, Out. is of particular interest to the fisherman . "The Giant Trout of Nipigon" is fhe opening number and describes the excellrtut trout fishing that is to be had on this famous stream, which is probably not excelled ty any other trout fishing stream in the Dominion. Prof. Edward E. Prince, Commissioner of Fisheries, contiibutes an article on The Pealsides : A Luminous Fish New t<p c'.mmU. " "The Amateur Fisherman Also Ilia Wife" is a humorous sko'ch of a day's fishing that proved disistrous alike to t.he fisherman's tackle and to his temper. Fishing Stories from British Columbia, Alberta, ^ape Breton, Ontario, etc., serve to maintain iha repsesenta- tive character of the magazine while other topics including another article on the fox industry and number three of the series "Small Fur Bearers aud How i> Take Them," give variety to the issue in which the/ appear. Cheap John Kuphrasia Township Council don't like the cost of printing this year, and were not a little surprised when tenders were opened for the year's printing, to find that all tenders were very much higher than in former years. However, after sciiiio talk a majority of the Council re- membered that everything had gone up, and it was reasonable to suppose that piinting had to also to go up. Mr. J. M. Davis, of the Basswood Tavern who wholloped Mr. Murray last January for the Deputy Keeveship, thought different and was quite sure thtt he could get the township printing done in Toronto at away down prices, so was allowed to taka the matter to Toronto to get it done at itarvaiiou pi-icon. J. M. familiarly known as "Jack," went to Toronto som* lime ago, is back quite long enough to have reported his success, but up to the other day had not mnde any report to the Council if he had or had not found some printer who inns' work cheap to get work at all. Some people are wondering when "Jack" intends reporting, aud if ho is going to put in a bill for hi* expenses to to Toronto. Clarksburg Review. Beware of mixed twines, which are really composed of low grade manila. They are unsatisfactory at the best, and they will annoy you to death straightening out tangles and picking up loose bundles. Bur good sisal, standard sisal, or high-grade manila binder twine and save yourself annoyance. When you consider the satisfaction that sisul, standard sisal and high-grade manila binder twine will give and the amount of extra labor good twine will save, you will more fully understand the value of McCormick twines. McCor- mick binder twine is made in four brands sisal, standard, manila, pure manila. Every brand is up to the McCormick quality. You will get perfect satisfaction if you use McCormick twine. Don't be misled, come direct to us and we will explain the twine proposition. S. Hcmphill, Agent, Ceylon
