McLood-That eloquent lesson to those who think j j Q.^eha be paid iho sun. of $2.25 for repairing sidewalk at Ceylon -Caraied. that all is fair in love, war â€" and {lolitics. At the previous cifction Mr. McKay's majority was under 100. If the lesson teaches anything it is that the time has gone by when a Juan's private character can be assail- ed with impunity iu a political con- test. Such tactics arc no longer popular. There are proper tribunals for the punii-hment of crime, and the electors refuse to substitute them- selves for constituted authority or to consider a man guilty on the streugtli of hearsay evidence. This is a healthy condition of afiairs and augurs well for the future propperity of Canada. Many a good man has in the past refused to lend his services to tlie country through a shrinking dread of the slanderer and traduccr. When It is made clear that personal attacks are unpopular and will in- Tariably recoil upon the head of those who make use of such weapons, the better element of politicians will come forward and enrich tho country by their services. Since the wave of scandal of a few years ago, we have had an era of comparative purity in political con tests, and the tendency appears to be to arise above everything degrading or at least criminal, in oui political contests. There is a considerable distance yet to travel before attaining perfection, but by its action in re- fusing to condemn Hon. A. G' Mc- Kay on the strength of rumor North Grey has pointed the way and it re mains for other luunicipalities to follow the lead. \Vill they do it ? PHYSICIANS Failed to Cure Rheumatism Make It Acclamation To the Kditor of The Advance : Dear Sir,^ â€" Since the death of our es- teemed Reeve I have been recalling some of the events that have transpired in mu- nici{)al affairs since tho municii.ality af Arlemesia was organized, and I think 1 am safe in stiting that the death of the lato Alexander Muir n tho first that has occurred in tbe Council Board of Arte- meaia since it became an incorporation some sixty years ago [Tho writer is in error, as the lato Mr. McKenzie Duncan pa.ssed away while .i inemher of the Council -Ki>. Aovanck], and I feel cer- tain that there was not one person in the township who was not shocked st the sad news and felt that the lownship had lo>it a worihy servant, a good citizen and a progressive farmer. Under these painful circumstances I think the electors should, through re-pect to his inemory, at the a|iproaching nomination re-elect the pres- ent Couijcillors and Deputy by acclama- tion, and also a Reeve. The business of the Council has been conducted i-i a fairly satisfactory manner, and it would be <iuite proper for the electors to show their appreciation l)y giving them an- other year and thereby save tho expense ot an election and allow municipal mat- ters to <iuiet down to their usual state •gain. "A friend insisted on my using Nervlline, and to my surprise a vig- orous rubbing of this powerful lini- ment eased the pains and reduced the stiffness In my Joints. I continued to use Nervlline and was permanently cured. I am now perfectly well, and for three years have had no rheumatism at all. I know many families where no other medicine but Nervlline Is kept â€" it Is so useful In minor ailments' like earache, toothache, neuralgia, coughs, colds, lumbago, and sciatica.
