Loucks had a nasty experience •with a vicious sow on Saturday, which • might easily have ueen worse. Mr. .Loucks picked up one of the young pi^s to examine it when Ihtu old sow made for him. He was unable to get to khe fence <bofore the infuri'ited animal attacked him. He was knocked down and bitten on the face and leg, but succeeded in reaching the fence and crawling over. A Dr. had to sew up the wound in his face, Rud so tar no after evil effects have .manifested themselves. Mr. Loucks .was in poor health and not as able to defei>d himself as he used to be. John Morrison, aaed t)6 years, an old resident of Meaford. was run down by an auto and died of the injuries received. Rev. S. H. Kastniau, pastor of Ers- kine Presbyterian church, Meaford, has resigned his charge. A Walkerton child chewed a piece of Gillet'a lye which its mother had acci- dentally dropped on the Hoor, with the result that its mouth was terribly burned. While removing hay frain a barn at Meaford George Tomlinson had the mis- fortune to fall through a hole in the mow to the tloor beneath, breaking several of his ribs and shaking him up very badly. .VU lovers of the spoit of partridge shooting will have one month's time in which to enjoy their pleasure. The sea&on this year will open on the 15th of October and will close a month from that day. As a good many sportsmen seem to think that the season will open the lath of September, it is only fair that they should be warued before hand. The Ontario constables have strict orders and these orders will be enforced to the limit. On Saturd.ay morning Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Yule's little daughter, aged about 17 monthi', was .severely burnt by a can of Gillet's lye which she pulled off a window sill so that the contents were spilled over her face and body, some entering the eyes and mouth. Fire on Saturday afternoon last com- pletely destroyed the lumber aud planing mill formerly owned by the Watt Milling Co., near the C. i*. R. station, Shel- burne, for the past few months operated by Mr. Geo. Mustard, foimerly of Cree- luore. The loss, we uuderstand, is in the neighborhood of $9,000, with in- guratice in the neighborhood of ft),OCO. Eight men are thrown out of employ- ment. We have not heard whether it i» the intention of Mr. Mustard to rebuild or not.â€" Eoonotuist. Chalmer, the si.xteen-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. James L. Brown. Siiiicoe street, is lying in the G. A M. Hospital between life and death. His critical condition is the result of a premature explosion of a quantity of calcium car- bide which he had in a can.
